After my Tuesday morning post I found the main release viewer updated to 3.7.4.288138. This was the Hotfix RC viewer compiled Mar 15 2014 and released some time Monday.

I am finding this viewer runs pretty fast (30+ FPS) when few people are around. Add a dozen people and it slows down horribly. I’ll need to spend more time with it and try it around other groups, but in the little time I have had it, that seems to be a pretty consistent experience. Continue reading →

I covered the viewers this weekend in: Second Life News 2014-11 #3. Today the main viewer is: Second Life 3.7.3 (287491).

I also see the wiki has updated (Mar 17 2014) for version 3.7.4.288045… this is the Google Breakpad version that has been added to the RC Viewers List, giving us 6 RC Viewers. Continue reading →

There is not much news to relate about servers. We already know the package that rolled out to the main server channel consisted of bug fixes. The only one which is noticeable, unless you were experiencing one of the bugs, is the fix for Help→About Second Life. The viewer would not consistently report the server version. Now it does.

Server RC’s

In week 10 the Magnum EC channel ran the Sunshine package, the one that supports AISv3. These are the changes to the way the system will deal with inventory. There are no user interface changes. The changes are all backend things. Users should only see more reliable inventory loading and fewer bake fails.

That package is now running on all the RC channels.

Maestro Linden is hoping the Lab can release the project soon. It has been on the RC channel for some weeks now. Continue reading →

The main grid did get a roll out this morning.  The package was previously running on Blue Steel and Le Tigre. It is a maintenance upgrade with bug fixes.

    • Fixed a bug in which the server release notes link in “About Second Life” would sometimes fail to appear
    • Fixed a bug in which certain objects had incorrect status when crossing between regions
    • Fixed a crash mode

RC Channels

The RC code running on Magnum will now run on all three channels. This is the Sunshine RC with the AISv3 code that improves how inventory works adding reliability and stall prevention. It is considered additional work in the Bake Fail or Server Side Appearance project. Continue reading →

I was hooking up a friend’s Netflix yesterday so I missed the Beta Server User Group meeting. Visio is not my favorite TV. Whatever, this morning I am reading the meeting transcript. We have good news on Group Ban. Also, there are some serious inventory loss problems afoot. See the heading WARNING.

RC Channels

Magnum remained on the AISv3 project, inventory API changes for bake fail solutions. This needs the Sunshine RC Viewer to be experienced. The Linens were doing a pile-on test Wednesday.

WARNING

Tankmaster Finesmith is pointing out they have seen some inventory loss in Magnum/Sunshine. He says there are some JIRA entries popping up as people report having lost all their inventory. Alexa Linden is said to be investigating the issue.  Continue reading →

Perspective

We don’t often get any insight into what Lindens are thinking about going on’s in the Lab. Today one gave us a glimpse.

I’ll wrap up and say that there’s a lot of good talking [in the Lab] going on about what works in SL, what doesn’t, what we’ve tried before and all that … as you know some changes take a lot of time and work, others can be done quickly.    But overall I’m more optimistic than I was 6 months ago, and I like that.
