Second Life News 2017 w28

The server roll this morning was canceled last minute. I think it was the Package on Magnum intended to roll out. The fix was to reduce problems with the system losing connection with the SL back end. But, something in the update was overloading the SL back end. So… next week… maybe.

The Lindens are unsure what they are going to do for Wednesday’s usual RC updates. The usual deploys thread is mostly useless.

From the Server-Scripting meeting we learn the Lindens are trying to get the package repaired and rolled to an RC channel tomorrow, Wednesday.

Today is Simon Linden’s 10th Rez Day!

Second Life – Third-Party Dev’s UG Meeting 2017 w27

Very short meeting, 20± minutes. Nothing new. Just status updates.

The first subject was the JIRA spamming. For now, the JIRA is locked down, no comments. There is no idea how long it will take to build a spam block.

Viewers

The Alex Ivy viewer is out as the main viewer. It will update soon as a couple of problems were found. The Lindens are working on the launcher that figures out if it should load the 32 or 64-bit version of the viewer. They are also adding a setting to allow the user to override the automatic detection and force install of one or the other.

Servers

The main channel continues to run #17.06.12.327066. But, they say there was a ‘bi-weekly’ restart. According to my ‘restart monitor’ in-world, the main channel region I live in was restarted 7/4 @ 08:05. So, they did. I think that is unusual for a holiday.

Blue Steel and Le Tigre continue to run #17.06.23.327344. There were no restarts.

Magnum was restarted and now runs #17.06.29.327400. This has the fix for the DJ song boards that stopped working. This is primarily an Operating System update.

The main Viewer updated from 5.0.5.326444 to 5.0.6.326593. – Release Notes:

This viewer moves fetching of several types of assets to HTTP. This means that landmarks, wearables, sounds, and animations will now be fetched the same way as textures, via a direct query to CDN instead of through the simulator. This should generally make loading of such content both faster and more reliable. Twice the fetching and half the crashing with this new build.

Second Life Maintenance Viewer version 5.0.7.327250 – Is updated from last week’s version 5.0.6.327125.

Second Life Voice Viewer version 5.0.7.327253 – Is updated from last week’s version 5.0.6.326589.

Second Life Project 360 Snapshot Viewer version 5.1.0.506488 – This one also updated, from 5.1.0.505089.

Second Life Project Alex Ivy Viewer version 5.1.0.505089 – No change.

Servers

Tuesday version #17.06.12.327066 of the server software rolled to the main channel. This is primarily a fix to keep regions from losing their connection to the backend servers.

Blue Steel and Le Tigre get the same new package #17.06.19.327206. Changes are listed as ‘Internal Changes’. I suppose that is more changes to data collection. Maybe updates to the server OS.

Second Life – Shoutcast – Why did Song Boards die?

Clubs and various places in Second Life™ use scripts to pull the name of the song playing on their media channel. Recently, the LL function call to request HTTP GET/PUT process changed. In doing so it broke most of the scripts used to get song names.

I must warn you …My Thoughts are dangerous and impure

The thread about the problem, DJ Board Display Not Working Properly, started in late May. BUG-100737Shoutcast receivers unable to relay on RC Magnum 17.05.23.326524 was filed soon after. By the end of the month, the Lindens had figured out the problem and were looking at a fix. BUT… the fix will require the scripts change.

If you can’t hear the screams of agony and frustration… get your hearing checked.
