Bits & Pieces SL 2014-8

Fabulously Free is a blog I recently started following. It has interesting stuff most every day. They mention the Cherries on Top hunt, running until Feb 28, Free SL Couture, Fab Friends – Advice on SL things, Nail Me – free fashion, and Princess Rose Hunt.

Having watched the blog for a couple of weeks now I have decided this is a good site to recommend to those new to Second Life™, free stuff, advice, and how to’s. And much of the free stuff looks really nice.

The list of hunts Fabulously Free provided this Friday is a couple of dozen long. They list both grid-wide and in-store hunts.

Second Life JIRA Change Coming?

In early September 2012 a JIRA update was rolled out. It wasn’t just a software update. How the Lindens used the JIRA was changing and most of that change was in how Second Life™ users used the JIRA. Basically user freedom in the JIRA was severely curtailed. Most SL users can only read JIRA items in the BUG project that they create. Now that may change.

Innula Zenovka got a comment from Ebbe Altberg about the JIRA. It is being widely quoted in numerous blogs.

Funny, both engineering and product heads here also didn’t like that jira was closed and want to open it up again. Proposal for how is in the works! I hope we can figure out how to do that in a way that works/scales soon.

This comment suggests that Mr. Altberg is open to the idea of opening the JIRA up. Ciaran has an article that covers problems and benefits of having an open JIRA. See: Ebbe Holds The Jira Door Ajar. I think I will be a bit more succinct then he was.

Second Life and RL Bits & Pieces

Myf - Does she look like an Adult or Child?
Myf – Does she look like an Adult or Child?

I saw this in Second Life™ hunt and think it is hilarious: Battle of Boobs Hunt. I understand it just started and runs until March 20. Get more information here.

If you are into hunts, there are usually a bunch in progress. Fabulously Free in SL lists their top twn hunts: Today’s Top 10 Hunts. Also, if you like freebies, Fabulously is a great site. It selects the ‘good’ stuff to tell you about. This saves you going throw all the junky freebies.

Versu – Ciaran Laval has a speculation or two in Versu Should Get A Second Life. He wonders if it might be released to open source.

Jo on Ebbe Altberg

Jo Yardley, the 1920’s Berlin creator, was invited to the recent in-world meeting with Ebbe Altberg. She has posted her take on the meeting and expressed her opinions. See: Chatting with Ebbe Altberg, new CEO of Linden Lab.

Jo gives more  information about the meeting than the other reports I’ve been reading. That alone makes it worth reading. Some of the points I found interesting follow.

As we learn more about Mr. Altberg I am more hopeful about the directions he will take Second Life and Linden Lab.

Mr. Altberg has studied fine art and computer science. I consider that a good sign for a business that deals in creative spaces.

Second Life Tidbits 2014-6 #2

Altberg

There are lots of blog articles about Ebbe Altberg. Inara has a detailed outline of his resume and some of his personal  interests. See: Ebbe Altberg – a short profile. It seems everyone is blogging about Ebbe. None of us have any idea of how well he will do with Second Life™.

Hamlet of New World Notes is planning to interview Atlberg. That may be the first time we get any idea of whether Altberg can get his head around what SL is.

Strawberry

Strawberry Singh has an article up about a free photo studio. See: StrawberrySingh.com Simple Photo Studio (free).

Jump over to her blog to get the link to the page in the SL Market Place.

As she points out this is a simple studio. If you have been around  SL for a time then you can do most of what photo studio does with a prim. But, if you are not a builder, it is a handy thing to have and the video is a mini tutorial.
