Second Life: Experience Tools Released

Tuesday (6/30) at about 11 AM PT the Lindens announced the partial release of Experience Tools. I write ‘partial’ because they are only fully released to Premium Members. This afternoon the 3.8.0 (302622) Jun 12 viewer automatically downloaded and I installed it.

This is also the main viewer now. Look at the download page.

That is a Jul 2, 2014 video.

The announcement is here: Experience Tools Available Now For Premium Members!

All users can get the viewer and use it. My understanding is only Premium Members can build experiences with this viewer, but all users can enjoy the experiences.

There is a knowledge Base article that helps you get started creating experiences. See: Experiences in Second Life. This is for both those wanting to participate in an experience and those wanting to create an experience.

There is a forum section the beta testers and early adopters used. It is now open to all. See: Experience Tools Forum.

You can find experiences to play in Second Life™ here; Resident-created experiences in our Destination Guide  and the Linden Portal Parks.

Second Life: Mad Pea Unia Pictures

Unia is open and Hamlet tells us has gained 1,000+ players in its first month. Word is that it uses some of the new abilities provided by the Advanced Experience Tools. Sounds interesting. I’ll eventually make it there.

Until then I can look at the pictures people are taking and posting on sites:

Second Life Games: The Bushido Challenge

Second Life has a number of in-world games… we probably need a better word than game, which is nebulous and ambiguous. Whatever the case, Honour McMillan has found, what I’ll call, a puzzle-adventure game called The Bushido Challenge.

She has photos and a bit of the story. It should give us something to do while we wait for UNIA to open. You’ll find this game in-world in Soyokaze.

It is a challenging game. If you like puzzles, like the Myst game, this will be something I think you’ll enjoy. I have yet to figure out how to use the talking monkeys to get hints. Its fun. I have yet to solve the game.

There was one player solving the ladder puzzle. He could see and find the parts but not the assembled ladder. I assumed he needed to relog. I suggest you wait to assemble the ladder until you find the hint about monkeys…

Second Life’s MadPea UNIA

Bryn Oh has a short article up about MadPea’s UNIA opening the 27th of this month. See it here: MadPea’s UNIA.

The UNIA countdown clock is here: UNIA The Game. As of today, 4/20, we are 7 days out.

UNIA is a project MadPea started in 2012. It was planned to be an interactive, immersive game with 1st person shooter elements. The plan was to develop the game in stages, mostly due to the limitations of Second Life™, the game platform in this case.

Second Life Games Week 16

Various games made in Second Life™ are showing up in the news. I think the reduced news flow coming out of the Lab has bloggers looking for things to write about. There is a lot inside SL to write about.

Honour has an article up about a build in SL named: End of the World as We Know It. See her article and pictures here. Some regions just can’t be done justice in a still photo.

Flying through with via camera and walking through are different experiences. I suggest walking.

Second Life: New MadPea Game

Kess Crystal of MadPea sent me an announcement about the new game they are proudly releasing: UNIA – Unleashing The Monster Within. Release date is April 20th. We have been hearing bits and pieces about this new game. Now it is almost here.

Kess writes that this game has been in production for 2+ years. Kess says this is the biggest, best, and most advanced game they have made. Kess describes the scale of the game as EPIC, in size and scope. I take it size includes play area.
