Do #SL Mesh Clothes Fit

If you have not read: #SL Mesh Deformer Debate Update now would be a good time.

We have an estimate for the cost of getting the computer code written for a Multiple Base Shape Deformer. We have some of the money pledges and only need to raise less than US$1,000. Our problem is convincing the Lindens it is needed and wanted.

Happy World IPv6 Day

You may or may not know or care what your Internet Protocol (IP) Address is. But, it is required for your computer and other devices to connect via the Internet. That includes your cell phone, whether smart or merely bright.

We have been running on IP V4, version 4. Today is the official… designated… tipping point day… whatever, it’s called the World IPv6 Day, for the changeover to IP version 6. The first IPv6 Day was in 2011. We are now one year into IPv6.

An IPv4 address looks like ###.###.###.### and ranges from 0.0.0.0 to 255.255.255.255. That gives us about 4.3 billion addresses. Except some ranges like 10.x.x.x, 172.16.x.x, and 192.168.x.x are reserved for private networks. Offices and home generally use these. They are considered none-routable. Meaning the first router outside your home or office will refuse to forward traffic destined for one of those addresses. This lets you easily setup private networks and saves on addresses. It lets your entire office or all the computers in your office to be reached by one routable IP address. Very much like one phone number can come into a switch board and reach any phone within an office.

GeForce GT 640 GPU Released

NVIDIA has released a new video card. New this card is retailing at US$110. It is considered a mid range video card. For Second Life® it is a decent card.

New GT 640

The card comes with 2 Gigabytes of Video Ram (VRAM).  It uses 65 watts of power, the same as a GT 440. The card is supposed to be 40% faster than the GT 440.

The GTX cards are better than the GT and GTS cards. However, this GT 640 does pretty well for the cost.

Greifer Monday

Today we are seeing new griefer toy creating chaos.

The new Linden Realm’s Advanced Creator Tools currently in Magnum is being user to create teleporters with broken permissions. When taken outside Magnum the toys will teleport people without their permission.

This morning I got to see the Cornfield for the first time. Then they teleported a load of people into the Scripting UG Meeting.

An immediate fix is for a region owner to turn scripts off.

Or, if your region is in the Magnum Release Channel it is immune.

Otherwise expect chaos until the Lindens figure out a fix, which may be to roll the package running on Magnum to the main grid.

PS: Motor Loon says, “Hi mom!”

UPDATE: The server updates rolled  late Monday seems to have fixed the problem.
