JIRA Change Continued

We have lots of speculation on why the Lindens made the JIRA change. I think we have a bit more evidence as to the reason. As I think it was mostly from the abusive posts in the JIRA, I may read too much in this. But, I think I’m pretty much on point.

An article from American Times appearing on the Forbes site: Microsoft Is Developing 3D Projection Technology That Could Turn Your Room Into A Game. This is about projection technology. I’m not how this would work in my little place.

Erik Kain writes: My skepticism around virtual reality tends to focus on whether gamers will actually use it as much as we think we might. Similar to how 3D movies haven’t really taken off in the home, I doubt holographic gaming is necessarily something that will become very mainstream, even if the technology permits.

…which echoes my thinking.

Erik also wrote: Either way, the next generation of gaming consoles is obviously going to be about more than just the graphics, or even just the games. It will be even more driven by hardware innovations than this generation has. So long as the games keep improving, more innovation in hardware is a welcome development.

I suspect he is right.

My Top Ten Second Life Sites

I suppose most people’s top ten is based on what they like the most. I tend to think of sites as informative or enjoyable. I started playing with Second Life™ to follow friends leaving Myst Online, it closed but has since re-opened. So, I started out looking for informative and explanatory information about my avatar’s new home.

I still like knowing what is going on. I got hooked when mesh was in development. I had been building a huge building in OSGrid and realized mesh would let me do so much more. Now the time I spend building is mostly out-world (not logged in) rather than in-world. Where SL Groups used to keep me informed the user groups, formerly Office Hours, give me more meat about coming changes.

Well… let’s start with the JIRA Change. In the Content & Mesh User Group meeting Nyx, Vir, Hoz, Oz, and Alexa Linden were all there. I suppose they were there to handle JIRA Change blow back. It wasn’t that bad.

Anonymous Attacks Go Daddy

I am hosting on Go Daddy. Today my email is wacky and clients are calling trying to find out why their web sites are down and email is failing. A tiny bit of digging and call to support to confirm and yep, it is true.

Not my favorite news source, is reporting that Anonymous is attacking Go Daddy. This hurts many of the owners of 53 million domain names for which Go Daddy provides DNS. Register a domain with Go Daddy and they host the DNS regardless of who hosts the actual site. So, this is affecting lots of people.

So, you may or may not be able to get to my site today and right now I cannot receive or send email. 🙁
