Last week (7) saw an unusual rollout for an update with a security fix in the under lying Linux code.
Peace..
This week (8) there is no roll to the main channel. There will be a roll to the RC channels with all three getting the same package; RC BlueSteel, LeTigre, and Magnum. There is a Server crash fix and some minor improvements…
Ciaran Laval writes RL is taking time away from his blogging. He’ll be a bit sporadic about posting. See: Brief Update. Darn. Ciaran is good.

Inara Pey is responding to those saying they will never visit a Project Sansar world if there is no World Map… or I suppose in the case of Sansar it would be more of a Universe Map. See: Maps as metaphors: Second Life and Sansar.
Anyone saying what they are NOT going to do something because of what something is going to bebefore they know what it is going to be… is obviously a shallow thinker… if they think.
Inara in her updates mentions the Gray Box problem, which has to do with regions crossings while attached to a vehicle. I can’t remember when I last crossed a region boundary with a vehicle. If you are running into that problem more information is here: SL project updates 16 7/1: server and viewer.
Your SL Firsts
SLUniverse has a kind of fun thread running. It is about your First ____________ in Second Life™. Check it out here: Your SL Firsts.
The title tells you the big change in this version. Cinder Roxley, Alchemy developer, says they have surpassed the Lab in the implementation of the CEF browsers engine. Cinder is using the latest and greatest, I guess.
Word is this version catches Alchemy up to Linden Viewer 4.0.0.
Thursday we had a surprise roll out to the RC channels of the main grid. The package was a fix for a security exploit. Friday early in the morning the update rolled to the main channel of the grid.

So, what was going on? The details were published by April Linden 2016-02-19 11:18 AM in the SL Forum/Blog. See: Why the Friday Grid Roll?
This exploit was in part of Linux system software. The Linux developers made the patch. The Lindens had to figure out what it would do to the Second Life(TM) system. Was it needed? Yes, crackers could exploit SL. Would the patch break anything in the SL system? Nobody knew. They had to find out. So, the Lindens put a lot of effort into getting this exploit resolved.
