ADITI Inventory Loss

I ran into this problem in early March. It seems my idea to change my password to flush and refresh my inventory in the ADITI grid was not such a good idea. It seems others use the same idea and change their password too. Or some may do it for security reasons. I suspect those of us playing and working in ADITI are more concerned about our inventory.

Several Problems

No Save Inventory – This is an annoying problem. When a password is changed one’s inventory is copied over to ADITI. Any inventory one had in ADITI previously is REPLACED. This is an expected behavor. It can be used to clean out the tons of test stuff one generate playing and experimenting in ADITI.

The new problem is anything created and saved to inventory will be gone the next time you login. Build something, save it to inventory, relog, and it is gone.

Auryn Beorn's Profile Pic

Auryn Beorn has made a note card that is making it around Second Life. I received a copy of it from a friend in D’ni Refugees (a Myst related group). It is great advice and information about avoiding being scammed.

Auryn’s profile has info abour being into; The Basic to Advanced Scripting, SculptCrafter, MLP, Animation, Tips&Tricks instructor at Builders Brewery. And she is the owner of “Black Tulip” (scripted tools, books, scripts).

Yep, another one of us creative types in Second Life. 🙂 After the fold is the copy of her note card with some tweaks to fit the formatting of my blog.

#SL ADITI Login Inventory Problem

If you use the ADITI Preview Grid for testing things you make or the new features coming to Second Life, be warned.

A few of us have recently updated our password, which forces an update of our inventory as it exists in AGNI, the main grid, to overwrite our inventory in ADITI. In many ways for me it is cleanup process for all the stuff I play with in ADITI.

This weekend I changed my password and my ADITI inventory updated. I suddenly could not rez anything from my inventory to the Path Test regions in ADITI. I made the things I needed from scratch and wrote my scripts for testing Pathfinding. When I was ready to log out I saved those things to inventory.

When I returned several hours later and logged in, all the things I made were missing from my ADITI inventory. I’ve been through this a couple of times now. I am so glad I use LSLEditor for writing scripts.

At the user group meetings I found out others are having the problem too. So, my advice is to avoid changing your password until the problem is resolved.

If you have already run into the problem, see JIRA item: SVC-7727. Please click Watch and add any additional information you may have. Remember. The JIRA is not for discussion. Also, ‘me too’ posts do not help if they do not add new information. For ‘me too’ just click watch.

#SL Problems Today

Seems one of the data centers went down. That took the Market Place, is rumored to have knocked 10k users offline, cutoff access to ADITI, and generally borked things.

Rod has been tweeting about it. Rod started tweeting about 11:30 AM, if my math is right, which is several hours after the problem event started. Not surprising that it takes some time for bad news to reach the top.

Several of the ripple problems have been resolved. Its unclear if the Market place slowed, was fixed, and then crashed. But, it is back up. Some say it still isn’t right. But, the Lindens are working on it. Rod was going down to the data center to see what’s up.

SOPA, PIPA, OPENA, and ACTA

A new article appearing on ReadWriteWeb is about the international Anti-Counterfeiting Trade Agreement (ACTA). The writer is part of the group that thinks SOPA, PIPA, and OPENA have been stopped. They have not. See: SOPA, PIPA, OPENA articles.

Now we have word about an international attack on our rights from another quarter: ACTA. Read the article: What You Should Know About ACTA and Your Rights.

This is important for our SL community because other counties will be adopting, or not, this treaty. Many countries still have opportunities to stop their countries from signing onto the treaty.

This law comes to us in the forum of a treaty. Pres. Obama has signed this treaty. Few people are aware of the attacks on our freedom in the US mounted by this admiration. A treaty must be approved by the US Senate. The House of Representatives has no say in treaties. So, in many ways the Senate is more important than the House.
