Phoenix LSL Preprocessor Info

LSL is the Linden Scripting Language. This is the scripting language used to program everything in Second Life. Advanced programmers are used to having libraries of code that can be used in several programs. No provision is made in Linden viewers to provide this feature. Emerald had a Preprocessor that provided programmers the feature. Phoenix … Read more

Imprudence Viewer Release and Changes – Review

Imprudence Viewer
Imprudence Logo

The newest release is: Imprudence Experimental Release: 2010.09.04

The Imprudence team is changing the name of their Weekly Release to Experimental Release. They feel the term “Weekly Release” has some people thinking the Weekly is a required download and install, which it is not. The hope is this change will make it easy for new Imprudence Viewer users to tell the latest Stable Release from the Experimental Release. I have both but I actually use the Experimental most of time.

This release has several new features. See: Imprudence Experimental Release: 2010.09.04 Viewer

Voice chat using Vivox is now part of the install. That makes voice chat on SL much easier.

Second Life Lost Inventory and Missing Inventory Fix – Help

With the recent release of several new viewers and the server software updates, many people are having lost inventory problems and avatars not rez’ing. There are some basic fixes that correct apparent or perceived lost inventory. There is a difference between apparently lost and really lost inventory. I’ll cover the ‘apparently lost’ and how to restore your inventory. Read the entire article before you start doing things.

Updated 2010-08-06 & 3/2012 – References to the sidebar are from SL Viewer 2.x. There is no sidebar in SL Viewer 3.+. The sidebar references indicate opening Inventory.

Simple Lost Inventory Fix

First we’ll assume your inventory is just ‘apparently’ lost. So, you are not seeing any of or some parts of your stuff in inventory. Linden Lab (LL) is changing how inventory works client side. Some of these changes seem to be confusing to older viewers and various versions. So, if you are switching back and forth between the 1.23.x and SL 2.x viewers you are very likely to have some inventory problems. If you just updated, you may have some problems. If you are an Emerald user you are very likely to have inventory issues.

Emerald Viewer vs SLURL

Update 12/24/2016: See the newer version of this information: Second Life: How to FIX SLURL’s.

UPDATE: The Emerald Viewer is long gone. But, these steps work with any viewer and web browser. You are changing Windows’ settings. Use your viewers name in place of ‘Emerald’.

This SLURL thing has been a problem for me for a long time. The problem is clicking on any SLURL in Google Chrome, or any Internet Browser, causes the SL Viewer to start up. If I’m lucky and have Emerald running, the SLURL will open in Emerald, but not always. This is how to fix that problem, so SLURL’s open the viewer you prefer. These changes can be made for any viewer you like.

DTShady posted a solution on the Modular Forum: SLURLS and Emerald (dead links removed). This solution is for Windows. I think it works on all versions of Windows. I am only testing it on Vista.

WARNING! These are changes to your Registry. You could conceivably mess up your computer changing the registry. So, be careful and pay attention to details. Making a Restore Point for recovery is a great idea. (Google: “How to” make Restore Point) Also there are a couple of minor errors in DTShady’s posted file. (You would normally correct those in the process of adding your path, so it may be unfair to call it a mistake. Sorry.)

Second Life Search

Linden Lab (LL) has fixed Second Life Search… well somewhat. Getting listed in search took time and some regions would never make it into the listings and others already in would fall out. Also, search has changed how it works or may be more accurately said, how it ranks the results. Those changes are important to merchants and shop owners.

Second Life 2.1 Viewer Shadows & Projectors

SL 2.1 Shadow Controls
SL 2.1 Shadow Controls

I had to do some searching to find out how to turn shadows on in the current SL Beta 2.1 viewers. The former instructions found on New World Notes, or Gwyneth Llewelyn’s SL 2.0 Beta still running too slowly on your Mac? No worries! are a bit out of date. It is easier now.

Juicy Bomb’s Second Life 2.0 Shadows instructions are good… plus all the cute clothes are fun.
