Phoenix Hour Summary and Index Week 42

A new Phoenix Hour meeting was last week. I’ve indexed the video below. You’ll see indexing after the summary.  You can find the video here: Phoenix Hour Oct. 18, 2011.

Summary

There is not much new information this week. I decided to condense it down to quick summary.

Both Firestorm and Phoenix are waiting on Linden Lab fixes to problems in the V3 code. That means we do not know when we will see the next release of either. Last week several adoption blockers were discussed. Most of those are now taken care of, so the next release probably won’t be a beta.

Also, the next release of both viewers will have mesh rendering. Firestorm almost has a working mesh upload. They will also include a right click feature to have the selected texture download from the server. This is for those things that just simply won’t rez.

Kirsten Reminder

Kirsten Contribution Panel

In my article Kirsten Viewer Update I covered the effort of people to raise enough money to pay Lee to continue development of the Kirsten Viewer. That effort is under way.

This is a reminder of the need for more money. Remember, you get your money back if the project does not reach its goal.

You can help in world by placing reminders around. I have in-world prims that link to the CrowdFunder site. The image to the left is what they look like. The previous one that was self updating had problems. The new one is just a link to the CrowdFunder site and Kirsten’s Viewer project.

Please help out by contributing or setting one of the sign/links out.

Adult Estate Owners Meeting

An Open Invitation has gone out to Adult Estate Owners for a 1 PM PT/SLT Saturday meeting, 2011/10/22. The meeting will be facilitated by the Zindra Expo Group.

The Zindr Expo Group asks that you please spread the word!

The meeting is for all Adult Estate owners in SL. Also all residents that are age verified as adult are welcome.

The primary purpose of the meeting is to connect with estate and other land owners with an interest in Adult Content. Zindra residents, and residents with an interst in Adult Content, have a voice. But estate and land owners special interests are often overlooked in the general residents’ group. This is your opportunity as a land owner to connect with other land owners and form a group

For more information please IM or NC Ginette Pinazzo.

The meeting will be in-world in Distrel. This is a region requires Second Life Adult Age Verification.

Please get the word around. Thanks.

#SL Server News Week 42

We got several complaints this week. I’m not sure how many of them are real. But, when the foundation shifts everything shakes. The HTTP Inventory Services made it to the main grid. That type of fundamental change usually comes with some problems.

Server Meeting 2011/10/20

Critical OS Updates Complete

Oskar Linden announced that about 3 PM Thursday this update process completed. All LL servers have now been updated.

The additional restarts for the COS updates are over.

It appears this update may have partially or completely solved SVC-5040Script performance dropped on regions deployed on class 7 hardware since rolling restart.

Adult Content Comes to the SL Forum

We now have an Adult Content section in the Second Life Forum. It looks like it came into being today, or at least today it became public.

There are Community Guidelines posted. These are pretty much what you would expect, no harassment, spamming, advertising, not personal information. But surprisingly nor is sexually explicit content… Nor are nudity or adult content per the SL Guidelines allowed… well… then what is it they are going to talk about that is different from other sections of the forum?

The forum section does not require age verification. I can read the forum without logging in.

Secret Forum

I hear that the previous Adult Content forum made by Blondin Linden was a private by invitation only section. If that is accurate, then this section of the forum has just been made public. Personally I thought the private thing was an SL Group, but what do I know? I’m not even 4 years old yet.

Who’s in Charge?

I’m not sure anyone outside the Lab knows. I think the moderators are in control of the forum. At some level above the moderators there is management. In some fashion direction from various management levels reaches the moderators. Somewhere in that management tree is Viale Linden. How much control he really has over the moderators is unknown.

SL Viewer 3.1.0 Upload Problems

This morning I found a number of the mesh creators posting about Collada upload problems. Check this thread: Can’t upload in the new viewer.

Since some experienced mesh creators are having problems and it is more than one, it seems to be a viewer problem.

It seems once a problem LoD version of the model is included, the uploader goes nuts and cannot recover. The grayed out upload and calc buttons never recover. A viewer restart clears the buttons but not the particular LoD version problem.

Charlar Linden has seen the thread and is watching for their JIRA.

Land Impact

This version is the one that changes labeling from Prim Equivalence to Land Impact. It has been so long since I’ve used the main viewer I forget people have been dealing with PE all this time. Hopefully the change to Land Impact and the new Linden post on how it works will help people better understand Collada Model costs.
