Second Life in Review: April 2015
Of course the first thing of the month is April Fool’s Day. The Lab released their new viewer made just for the day: Introducing 2DSS Mode for Second Life.

March 2015 – 96 Articles
This month the Lab was working on rolling out AISv3. Problems were biting people as the transition was being made. Problems ranged from render fails to not being able rez from inventory.

Project Avatar Layer Limits Viewer – This was the start of the project to change how we use layers on the avatar. Basically it changes the limit of how many textures one can wear on a given layer and sets the total limit at 60.

Word in March was that a viewer change to improve teleporting and crossing into another region was coming. Also that soon viewers will not install on Windows XP 32 or 64 bit machines.
Second Life™ made it in the news this week. PSFK ran an article titled: A Look Into a More Social Virtual Reality With the Makers of Second Life. This is an interview with Ebbe Altberg, Linden Lab CEO, and Senior Director of Global Communications Peter Gray. While referencing Second Life most of the information is about Project Sansar.

Both Ebbe and Peter think the social interaction in VR will be huge. While that is debatable, they have a lot of company.

The UKanDo viewer version 4.0 has released. When going to download it I noticed their note that Flash won’t work with this viewer, unless you take some special steps. This is because v4.0 viewers have changed from older web tech, Webkit, to the newer Chromium Embedded Framework.
