More Global Warming

The data Warmers use most often comes from the UN’s IPCC, International Panel on Climate Change. In an ironic twist 20+ years into the debate more and more of the data used by skeptics comes from… yep the IPCC. If you are one that believes manmade warming is killing the planet, your beliefs are likely being fed by the mainstream media and the UN. If you’re a skeptic, you are either believing your friends or you are digging through reports and skeptic’s web sites.

You could look up the 1990 IPCC report and compare its predictions for coming years. We now have 20+ years of actual data since the report was written to look at. We can see how well the IPCC did at predicting the future, not very well. But, then you would have to get into the data and see how the IPCC has been adjusting it. US ambassador: Internet fee proposal gaining momentum

Treaties are moving forward to give control of the Internet to the UN. U.S.  Amb. Terry Kramer is quoted by Brendan Sasso.

Brendan Sasso  in and article on The Hill says, “The proposal by the European Telecommunications Network Operators’ Association could force websites like Google, Facebook and Netflix to pay fees to network operators around the world.

…

Democrats and Republicans in the United States are united against proposals to increase international control of the Internet. Congress passed a non-binding resolution earlier this year urging the United States delegation to ‘promote a global Internet free from government control and preserve and advance the successful multi-stakeholder model that governs the Internet today.’”

Mostly countries that are totalitarian in Africa and Arab nations are pushing this. But, poor countries see the fees as a source of income. I suspect some want to extend Sharia Law to control the Internet, something women everywhere should oppose.

nVidia Drivers 306.97 Released

The last driver out was 306.23 released on September 23rd. This newer 306.97 was released on October 10th. I’ve been running the 306.23 since the September release. I haven’t seen any problems in Second Life™ with 306.23. Unless the Pathfinding Characters failing to render correctly in the SL Development Viewer is related to the driver, which doesn’t seem to be the case, more later.

I have seen the behavior of my Vista-32 change with 306.23. There seems to be a serious video lag in several places. Moving icons on the desktop is one place. Moving the icon appears to leave a copy of the icon behind. It can take 10 to 30 seconds or longer for the left-behind-icon to disappear. In some cases I have to do something to make the screen update before it goes away.

Internet Freedom to End in December 2012

I am a political activist. I don’t often write about politics on this site. But, a few things make it into this blog every now and then. This is one item that should make it in as it affects everyone on the planet.

Losing Freedom?

The nations of the world are negotiating the International Telecommunications Regulations treaty lead by Russia and China that will allow regulation of the Internet through the United Nations.  We know about the talks through a WCITLeaks anonymous posting by a participant in the talks.  The signing ceremony has been scheduled in Dubai in December of 2012.

It currently looks like Hamadoun Toure, From Mali and a graduate from the Russian Leningrad Institute and Moscow Technical University, is Vladimir Putin’s choice to run the Internet.

#SL Direction Speculation

After listening to last week’s Metareality podcast and this week’s announcement of CreatorVerse™ and Patterns™ it occurs to me there may be a plan at work here. This is speculation on my part so it may just be my hallucination.

First, one of things I mention in MetaReality Podcast Week 37 at time mark 32:45 is the number of beginning Internet and computer users. A major number of people using computers now have never used Internet or for only a very short time. The number of Internet users has increased 500% over the last 10 years. The number of first time computer users is going up too.

JIRA Change Update Wk 37

Oskar was asking about the Second LifeTM JIRA Change in the Server Beta meeting and how it has gone for the first week. He asked for pro’s and con’s.

Not Entirely Harmonious

Pro’s are: No duplicate checking, easier to file bug report, and faster for those that can read JIRA’s. The ‘faster’ part being attributed to: removal of whiner and rant posts.

Con’s are: — no one voiced any — that does not mean there aren’t any. But, that no one brought up any says something. What it says is debatable.

Oskar says there are lots of internal conversations with the QA teams about the JIRA Change and how to make it possible for the ‘regular contributors’ to the JIRA process to continue contributing. The key concept being: contributors who are regularly positive and helpful. Oskar wants a larger group of people with enhanced JIRA privileges. Oskar says they are discussing the idea of a QA Contributors group. While Oskar is not sure how it will shape up, he is confident that it will happen in some form.

JIRA Change Continued

We have lots of speculation on why the Lindens made the JIRA change. I think we have a bit more evidence as to the reason. As I think it was mostly from the abusive posts in the JIRA, I may read too much in this. But, I think I’m pretty much on point.

This appeared in the Deploys thread this week.
