Second Life Blogs Open

You have probably heard, the SL Blogs, Forum, Knowledge Base, and Answers are open for posting. The new community system integrates them, which is supposedly better than the previous system.

Torley has a spiffy looking new tutorial on the new system of Blogs, Forum, Knowledge Base, and Answers. See: Torley’s Welcome to the New Second Life Community Platform

To set your avatar picture in the new system, you’ll want to watch the new tutorial. The information is at about the 5 minute mark. Not exactly fun and easy… but not too bad.

If you use a reader (RSS Subscription), you need to create new subscriptions.

General Discussion seems to be missing in action. The new Answers section has this: Is there a place for general discussions here? – Not much help. The General Discussion (GD) section of the previous forum was a topic of many threads. Many felt it should be removed. It was sort of like having a miscellainous section in filing, which creates filing problems. Whatever the case, it appears the GD section of the forums is gone.

OpenSim Astra Viewer Review

Astra Viewer

Astra Viewer

The main developer of Astra Viewer is Siana Gearz. (See comments for a correction) Posting in SLUniverse’s forum Siana wrote:

Oh and never mind my fork of Astra, forget it, it’s for private OpenSim/AuroraSim installation only, It’s a special purpose version of Imprudence.

Siana was writing in a thread about the Singularity Viewer to answer someone question about Astra. If you have questions about Astra, contact Siana.

So, Astra is not a Second Life Viewer or at least not intended for use on the SL Grids.

For OpenSim Use

If you are playing or working on OpenSim then download a copy of Astra. Astra Viewer Download (broken) Update: Astra Viewer Download (from Google 11/2011) which eventually leads to a Singularity Viewer download.

USE: Astra Viewer Download (1.6.0.2) – See: Astra Viewer 1.6.0.2 Download Review

The web site is mostly empty. Update: 11/2011 the site is gone.

Mono 2 Progress

Kelley Linden has put an update on the SL Wiki about Mono 2 (Mar 1, 2011). About a week ago I published Second Life Mono2 Scripting Coming writing about the coming scripting changes. Kelley’s wiki entry brings us up to date.

See: Mono2

As of March 1, the roll outs moved Mono2 Aware code to the main grid. With luck the Mono2 code will move into the Main Server Branch of the code, a library thing. Shortly after that it will rollout to the Release Channels. So, may be by the end of the month the main grid will be on Mono2.

Snowstorm Viewer Project Update Week 9

Snowstorm

Snowstorm Viewer

Most of the viewer work is still boring technical stuff… button fixed here, arrow fixed there… important stuff, just not very exciting. But, there is lots of work going on. Here are the items I think are somewhat interesting.

Current Changes

STORM-610: Changes to Environment Editor: water color change is not saved – This one is still in progress. The latest fix failed and the change was backed out.

STORM-680: Avaline callers are added to the Recent list – The expected behavior has been adjusted and the fix is in… as of yesterday. This means one will see it in version SLV2.7.0-222124 Development.

Dolphin Viewer 2.5.1.14620 Released Review

Yay, we have a new release. You can find the Dolphin Viewer 2 Download here. There is also a new version of the Snowglobe version Dolphin Viewer 1.5.46.3627 (download on the same page). This article is about my experience with 2.5.1 version.

Download & Install

Typical, easy.

The settings from the previous install are retained. I installed over the top of the previous version. All seemed to work without a cache clear.
