Kokua and Imprudence

I don’t keep up with Kokua and Imprudence as much as I might and certainly not as much as I used to. Imprudence Viewer was for some time my favorite viewer for both SL and OpenSim. Soon it slipped to being my choice just for OpenSim. Then it fell so far behind I stopped using it. I still have it installed… I’m not sure why.

There is a small effort to update Imprudence. But, I think it is so far behind it is no longer usable.

Kokua was to be the primary OpenSim viewer. I had hoped to see Aurora and Kokua offer some competition to Second Life™ by providing combined viewer and server features creators could use. I got the impression there was a goal to develop viewer and server dependent features more quickly and lower the wall between the viewer and server.

Dolphin Viewer 3.4.3 – 26620

A new release of the Dolphin 3 Viewer is out. It has been updated to have the latest changes from the Linden Lab® Viewer and Marine Kelly’s updates to RLV 2.08.03.04.

The Lab’s updates include the code for Large Group Editing, handling the object properties Creator when there are multiple creators, and Maturity functions.

I’ve written a lot about the Large Group Editing so I won’t repeat that. The Creator thing seems self explanatory. The ‘Maturity’ things need a bit of explanation.

Windows 8 and RT Review

Because I would with small businesses with 10 and fewer employees I deal mostly with Windows computers. In that time I found what I think are the best Windows Tech manuals. The author is Mark Minasi and he has written a series of Windows Server 20XX books that I rely on. So, when I saw his review of Windows 8 and RT is was interested.

You can find his review here: Mark Minasi’s Windows Networking Tech Page Issue #103 November 2012.

The following is a quick take of what Mark wrote. I warn you this is my take on what Mark wrote. Read his review to get his words.

Griefing Alert

WARNING: A malicious freebie is making the rounds in second life.

If you receive an object called “[L4L]-Gestures & Walkers (Freebies) <3”, delete it at once. DO NOT Rez, or wear it! This object will rez replicating micro cubes in YOUR name filling up a sim, which could cause it to crash, inadvertently making YOU the villain and subject to banning, and/or an AR being filed. Those cubes then send the malicious freebie to other avatars in the immediate vicinity, making it a vicious cycle.

Simon Linden said, “…it’s pretty much an ugly social-engineering griefer ploy.”

Whirly Fizzle provided a link about it: http://wiki.phoenixviewer.com/exdepart and said, “[L4L]- Gestures & Walkers (Freebies) <3 is the one thats getting used a lot, ATM.”

#SL Mesh Deformer Update Week 48

In my #SL News on the 15th I reported I think the Mesh Deformer Project is setting off to the side. I mention that from Oz Linden’s perspective interest in the Deformer has died out. That drew some reaction in several places. Since a couple of days after the article things have picked up. I doubt I did all that. But, people are getting the word out.

Blender 2.64a – Transform/Rotation

I’ve also gotten several questions that surprised me. Some are pointing out they are new to this issue… which while that surprises me it shouldn’t. This project started a year ago and we have had a lot of people come in and leave during that period. So, I’m going to try to update things get people together.

If you find people confused on what testing is in progress and what needs to be done, please refer them here.

Maestro Linden says some of the ADITI problems were due to a hard disk filling up. That supposedly has been taken care of. But, I am still having problems logging in or doing much of anything on ADITI.

If you are seeing these problems, file a JIRA and reference the JIRA item that is most similar to what you experienced.
