Information is leaking that bouncing boobies are coming to the SLV2. Now wouldn’t that be fun. Apparently the implementation would be different than in Phoenix and Imprudence, way different.
Second Life and Virtual Worlds
General Viewer Information

On the 21st the Dolphin Viewer made the Third Party Viewer (TPV) List. Congrats. So, it is probably time to take a look at this viewer.
I like blue colors so I think the web site is pretty, Dolphin Viewer Web Site/Blog. Bug reports are to be made in the Dolphin Viewer Forum. The forum is new, so there is not much there. The Dolphin Viewer Download page has instructions for installation; it’s different so pay attention. Linux, Mac, and Windows versions are available. Source code is available; links are on the download page.
Warning: The developer can’t test Mac versions. So, you may find problems in the Mac version that are not visible to the developer. Your feedback would be helpful, if you’re into helping.
In the viewer’s ToS is the information that the Dolphin Viewer is based on Henri Beauchamp’s “Cool VL Viewer” and ported to the Snowglobe 1.4 code base. That makes this a Second Life Viewer 1 (SLV1) series viewer. Some of the dialogs still refer to the viewer as Snowglobe.

Yesterday I tried using the Second Life Viewer. I had to down load a new version, which shows on the download page as Second Life 2.1.1 (208043). It has been around for a little while, I’m just seeing it now. I usually use the Development Viewer. Today I see the Release notes in the Wiki being updated for Development (Beta) Viewer 2.2.0, the one I normally use. See: Release Notes/Second Life Beta Viewer/2.2.0
If you think it odd that I look at the Release Notes for Development Viewer 2.2.0 for the new Main Viewer 2.1.1 then consider. The bugs fixed in 2.2.0 are still alive and well in 2.1.1…
Update: 2013-08-20 – Server Side Appearance rolled out to the main grid today. The avatar bake process described here is no longer in use. It will take some time to see if the problem is completely solved or whether more removed causes prevent avatar rendering in the future. Search this blog for bake fail to find newer articles. This blog uses an enhanced search tool.
Update: 2010-09-30 – added tidbits of information – Update 2010-10-04 – added links
See the date to the right for the latest update. I come back and add new info and update existing information from time to time.

This problem seems to have become a recent epidemic (2010). There are a number of reasons for why now. I suspect people are more interested in how to fix it and get their avatar rendered. Here is the information I have come across.
Bunches of people have had problems getting Phoenix to run. Actually regardless of which viewer you use you are likely having problems. Tuesday Linden Lab rolled out a server upgrade, so hopefully some of the problems will stop.
For those having problems there are two things to consider. The Phoenix Viewer Wiki article: Troubleshooting and Quick Fixes. The other is the Phoenix Viewer Additional Downloads.
