Firestorm-Phoenix Debug Settings

If one just uses the FS/PH viewer, they may never need the Debug Settings. However, knowing about these settings will allow you to customize your experience. A good example of their use is in Camera Position Tips.

The Wiki for Firestorm-Phoenix has a list of the Debug Settings for those viewers. You will find the lists here: Phoenix Debug Settings – Alphabetical Listing and Firestorm Debug Settings – Alphabetical Listing. They are not clear which list is for which viewer. Hopefully I have it right.

Also, the lists are incomplete. Settings like; FocusOffsetRearView and CameraOffsetRearView are in the viewer but not the lists on the wiki. You can find the rest of the list in the SL Wiki here: Second Life Debug Settings.

Oz Linden Interviewed by Jessica Lyon

The interview with Oz Linden on Third Party Viewer (TPV) Policy came off today. It went better than the last Phoenix Hour. Still, the Treet.TV Stream was over loaded. There were something like 350 users connected. There were 270+ people in IRC. @Howdy says about 25% more were connected to the stream, so 350.

The Interview

The stream was almost impossible to understand. The stream kept buffering. That causes the video and audio stream to pause. I was getting 2 to 4 pauses per minute. Some pauses were long, 20 to 40 seconds. One could get the gist of what they were saying, Buy, any nuances were lost. Sometimes whole sentences were lost. Not a fun listen.

#SL Scripting UG News Week 10

The previous Monday meeting fell on a holiday, so no meeting. This week some interesting items but not much news.

Second Life Scripting Meeting

Last Names

I think we all know Rod Humble, LL CEO, had to walk back his idea to bring last names back. The interesting part is Kelly Linden had not heard the story by the time of Monday’s meeting. My point being: the Lindens are not a homogeneous well informed body. They often have their heads into their projects and are oblivious to much of the goings on in Second Life.

llGiveInventory()

This week’s roll to the main grid has the relaxed llGiveInventory() throttle. This doubles the rate subscribers and other messaging and delivery systems can send. The new rate is 2,500 sends per 15 minutes.

Last Mesh UG Meeting?

With the vanishing of Charlar Linden the Content-Mesh group was left in question. Charlar’s last words from different sources say things along the line of wasn’t fired, didn’t leave, position canceled. Speculation is he may have gotten transferred to one of the Lab’s secret projects. Or more simply his specific job was done and the contract over.

Last Meeting?

That left many of us wondering what would happen at Monday’s UG meeting. Nyx, Vir, and Runitai arrived at the meeting. Thirty or so people arrived. Nyx took over and facilitated the meeting. Thanks, Nyx.

#SL Clouds, Grey, and Blurry Avatars

We seem to be getting another round of poorly rezzing avatars. The particle cloud avatars we know about. That is often a connection issue. I write my fix-it article Avatar Render Problems: Ghost Cloud Smoke Ball Ruth in September 2010. But, something new is up.

The Problem - Extended Bake Fail

Blurry Avatars

For several weeks I have noticed when changing clothes I get a blurry avatar. My skin and clothes start blurry after a change, then rez nice and crisp once, then go blurry again and never seem to finish rezzing.  They stay blurry.

#SL ADITI Login Inventory Problem

If you use the ADITI Preview Grid for testing things you make or the new features coming to Second Life, be warned.

A few of us have recently updated our password, which forces an update of our inventory as it exists in AGNI, the main grid, to overwrite our inventory in ADITI. In many ways for me it is cleanup process for all the stuff I play with in ADITI.

This weekend I changed my password and my ADITI inventory updated. I suddenly could not rez anything from my inventory to the Path Test regions in ADITI. I made the things I needed from scratch and wrote my scripts for testing Pathfinding. When I was ready to log out I saved those things to inventory.

When I returned several hours later and logged in, all the things I made were missing from my ADITI inventory. I’ve been through this a couple of times now. I am so glad I use LSLEditor for writing scripts.

At the user group meetings I found out others are having the problem too. So, my advice is to avoid changing your password until the problem is resolved.

If you have already run into the problem, see JIRA item: SVC-7727. Please click Watch and add any additional information you may have. Remember. The JIRA is not for discussion. Also, ‘me too’ posts do not help if they do not add new information. For ‘me too’ just click watch.
