No Deploys post this week. Rider Linden at the Server-Scripting UG told us, “So, The internal fixes on the RCs from last week should be rolling to the main grid this week. Snack is getting a new roll that we hope will address some of the region crossing issues.

Release notes are on the way.  We’ve made some changes on the back end with respect to message reliability that we are hoping makes the transitions a bit more reliable.

If I understand… (if I’m not making sense, that is because I’m not making sense. Medical drugs and lack of good sleep. Bronchitis.) The region crossing related change roll out on AGNI in the Snack RC regions.

Rider, “Also, the name functions are available on my testing regions on Aditi.  (Sylveon, Leafeon, etc).

I think these are the new functions for names from UUID and UUID from name. I doubt you can change your name.

Mazidox Linden, “There is a bunch of regions around a region called “Est Full2” on Aditi that have the relevant code to test region crossing.

You might know those regions had no public access. Maz changed that Tuesday. You should be able to get in and test.

After the RC roll Wednesday there should be 4 adjacent regions in Snack for testing region crossings. These are primarily vehicle crossing things.

BUG-216032Changes to PRIM_MEDIA_CURRENT_URL breaks lots of existing content. Seems this is an issue with existing content that needs to use HTTP over HTTPS. The server tacks on the ‘S’, breaking content. And/or if the http or https is left out it uses a blank UTL.

Oz Linden said, “We installed an important security patch, which happened to no longer infer http for a URL that had no scheme (in my opinion a good change). That broke some scripts that had used the field for a URL but left off the scheme (eg. “myserver.example.com/myapi”) so those were broken. In order to get those slightly sloppy but legit uses working again, we added the scheme for them (but used https because everyone always should).

Storing data in that url field was never intended to work.”

If you end up with data trapped in this field contact Oz Linden. They will try to help you recover it.

  1. The comment about code to fix region crossings is promising. Where can I get more info (nature of the change, and likely timing to make it to the main grid)

    • The improvements to region crossings are server-side stuff. The changes are in how servers communicate and handle lost information. So, we only hear about the changes in somewhat vague terms. I report what I think is the useable news on the subject. The only useful information is the Lindens are changing how the servers work and we hopefully will see an improvement.

If you want information on how scripters can improve their vehicles talk with Joe Magarac, in SL aka animats. He is the primary push for getting vehicle crossings improved.

As I said above, the changes are in the Snack RC and ADITI now.

He has a test vehicle that I can drive across 3 regions at the 4-corners of adjacent regions and stay seated. It is great fun to zoom across the grid clipping the second region as I head into a third.
