Male Mesh Clothes Needed

We still need more clothes for male avatars for the Deformer test.

Last week at this time I ran an article about Oz Linden’s request for more male clothes for testing. (More #SL Mesh Clothes Needed) As of yesterday, when I asked him, Oz has not received any new test garments for males. We need to either make some for testing or get some designers to provide some test versions.

For those of us making test clothes it takes some time. We have no idea how much time is left. We know a new version of the Deformer is in process. Then the code has to make it to the Deformer Project Viewer. We can expect some re-uploads to be needed once a new project viewer comes out. We need more test clothes for that new project viewer.

If you are planning to submit test clothes, please add a comment. Thanks.

And… more clothes for either gender in general are needed for testing.

More Mesh Deformer News Week 24

I know this is week 25. But, I’m a bit behind.

The Mesh Deformer has been the subject of lots of debate and discussion. It centers around the Mesh Clothes Sizing and how that will or won’t be handled in the Parametric Deformer Project, aka Mesh Deformer.

From a coming Weight Painting Tutorial

Last week (24) Karl Stiefvater, the Mesh Deformer coder, talked about where development of the Mesh deformer is headed in a MetaReality’s podcast: Come Together. Discussion starts about the 34:20 minute mark.

Standard Sizes Out

It seems sizes are out. Don’t get excited if you are Standard Size supporter. The real issue is how to fit our custom shapes and deal with some of the extreme shapes Second Life® users use. It looks like a better way has been found then using standard sizes or multiple base shapes, which was my favored solution until now.

Mesh Deformer News Week 24

There is not much new going on here but there are some tidbits of news.

In the Content and Mesh Creators’ group we got the question: “Mesh Deformer: What is the current status of deformer testing and what is its priority level? I’ve heard that redoing the shape keys for the fat and muscle sliders is being considered as a fix for the distortions on more extreme shapes. Is this accurate? If so, is LL set on doing this themselves or would they accept a donation on that task? The timeline is fairly important to the design community, and we can’t imagine the workload you must be dealing with. Is there anything we can do to help this particular project along? Elie Spot 11:27, 11 June 2012 (PDT)

Nyx Linden: “As for the deformer, Oz is the one working most closely with Qarl on that project, he would know best what the current status and holdups are.

Elie Spot: “…as Qarl is pretty much done w/ the current version, it is only awaiting fixes to make it work for more extreme shapes. The deformer is pretty much sitting in LL’s camp right now.

#SL News Week 23

Griefer Monday cut into Kelly’s and Nyx Linden’s meetings. So, not much news from those meetings. I think pretty much everyone knows about the Advanced Creator or Experience Tools getting lose from the Release Channels.

Earthquake Map

One of the Scripting/Server meetings was hijacked by Slee Mayo’s fun new educational toy. It uses the LSL functions for HTTP data queries to make a live near real time map of earthquakes. See the opening image. Plus I was distracted and late getting there and they stopped posting transcripts in early May, so not much news from that meeting.

SVC-7902Problem of not being able to rez on my land continues. This fix went to release channel Magnum Wednesday.

Do #SL Mesh Clothes Fit

If you have not read: #SL Mesh Deformer Debate Update now would be a good time.

We have an estimate for the cost of getting the computer code written for a Multiple Base Shape Deformer. We have some of the money pledges and only need to raise less than US$1,000. Our problem is convincing the Lindens it is needed and wanted.

There is some discussion ongoing in several places. But, check out SLUniverse where I wrote:

MetaReality

I’ll do the indexing to this podcast a bit differently, just because… I used the outline from MetaReality’s page and added to it. Hear the podcast here: The Status of Virtual Worlds.

Metareality Podcasts

Again I paraphrase things. What I write is my take away from what I heard. This is a good discussion and has some good information on the possible future directions of Second Life. It also is the first I’ve heard of someone criticizing the mobile Apps explosion and putting it in realistic terms. I’ve wondered how people were going to deal with data caps on their phones.

#SL Mesh Deformer Debate Update

There was lots of debate on the Mesh Deformer and whether it should have a single default shape as the basis for deformation calculations or whether it should have multiple base shapes. That question is still undecided. Discussion has kinda died down, at least in my circles.

If you are unaware of the sides of the debate, see: The Great #SL Deformer Debate.

Open Source Meeting

Questions

One of the prime questions I asked in the article is how it will be funded. That is not likely to be a problem.

Another problem is what it would cost to add the capability. Emma Gilmour asked Qarl what it would cost, not that much. We are certain we can raise the needed money in a very short time. We have almost half of it covered now.

So, a couple of questions are down and the possibility becomes much more likely.

And the Lab…

The next challenge is where are we with the Lab and Avatar 2.0?
