Second Life Clothing & Sculpty Update

Machinimatrix
Jass Preview

Many builders for Second Life use Blender to make their sculpties. Blender is complicated but a free and very powerful 3D modeling and animation tool. Add to the complexity of Blender the requirements and limits Second Life imposes on sculpties and it creates a steep learning curve for those new to sculpties. In some cases an overwhelming turnoff. But, read on to learn how to reduce that learning curve and speed up your design work. Learn how to make those really stunning sculpties.

Others also use Blender to check clothes design. I found Blender is a faster round trip check from Photoshop to Blender to Photoshop than most other processes. Many also use Photoshop to work with terrain texture and raw files. Recently the help, support and tools for all these just got better.

RL Life got busy

I am posting less because I have new RL projects. Also I am writing a post on updating Opensim. I ran into a problem and continue to search for work-arounds and experiments with how to solve the problem.

My little Opensim world had several things I built on my island. When I upgraded those did not transfer to the new version. I got my inventory, terrain and etc. But none of the buildings. Once I resolve that issue I’ll publish it.

Check here on Monday’s. I usually post about something and have a new post up on Monday.

PS: No… that is not my OpenSim world… I wish. It’s a region in SL.

Myst-Uru-SL Updates

GoMa Wiki
The GoMa Wiki

Most Myst-Uru-SL fans know that Myst for the iPhone was released. Also a new trouble ticket and knowledge base was opened by Cyan. Also, Cyan joined the Twitter world. Another Myst Style build is going up in the SL region Devokan. Eder D’Uru guild meetings officially started last week and D’ni language and building classes have been and are being taught in Eder D’Uru. But do you know the names of the fan created ages currently available for play using the DVD, stand alone Myst game Complete Chronicles or Path of The Shell? Or how many ages are actively being worked on? Are they in preliminary stages or nearly complete?

Second Life Bot Camping

Linden Labs has published a new policy on camping robots. (You need an SL account to access the page) If you don’t know these are robots that are used to make a place look inhabited and to pump up traffic scores for better placement on SL Search. Robots come in various flavors. Some have artificial intelligence and can even carry on a lame conversation.

Many of us think getting rid of bots would be a totally good thing, but not everyone. Some bots are hired to model cloths, hair and stuff in various stores. What about those?

More Windlight Settings

Windlight is a neat fun part of the Second Life (SL) viewer. New World Notes (NWN) just posted links to some new pre-made WindLight Presets. These were made by Mescaline Tammas a machinima maker in SL. He used them for his filming/recording in SL. Those of you that want to take dramatic pictures in SL should get these and add them to their bag of tricks.

Check out some of the machinima movies made with them. Links in the NWN’s post.

Using Audacity

Audacity
Audacity Interface

Audacity is a free sound editing tool for Windows or as technically known a Digital Audio Editor. It is great for making sound clips for import to Second Life. If you are doing voice, there are some basic tips one should know for handling voice. I’m no expert but I have learned a few things using it.

The program as well as a number of others, twenty-four actually, are listed here: 25 Free Digital Audio Editors. Audacity is the editor of choice for Second Life types. There are in-game classes by various groups.
