This week’s show is titled: The Noob Experience. There is some interesting information in the podcast. I didn’t find much actionable information. The result is the index of the audio tape is a bit sparse. I have some comments in the summary.
Gala Phoenix posted (7/16) that the goal of US$20k had been reached. I want to point out that a chunk of the money is likely to go for taxes and be taken from the fight. Also, as Gala pointed out:
“$20,000 is a lot of money, but it is really the low end for a copyright lawsuit. The more I raise above that minimum, the better prepared I will be for the fight coming up. I will keep updating the total here so you’ll know what the final amount is.”
One Voice Fund Raiser
One Voice runs for a couple of more days. Please get by and purchase something. We need to fund this fight as best we can. This abuse of the DMCA is something that affects all of us in varying ways. Letting the bad guys win is just unthinkable.
For short I will refer to the group as CCIIUG or, for me, CIG. This week the meeting touched on Cloth Simulation and discussed more about Morph Targets.
Content Improvement Group
For the first 3 meetings the agenda has been overflowing. The topics also require considerable discussion. So, we have yet to make it completely through an agenda in a single meeting. Attendance has been 20 to 30 people.
Part of the idea is to discuss JIRA items that content creators need fixed. Supposedly the first 15 minutes will be devoted to JIRA items. Asking if anyone has a JIRA to bring up tends to result in a ‘deer in the headlights’ reaction. Eventually we may learn to deal with it.
July 22 is the end of One Voice. I’m there right now as I write this. There are 4 people here. I suspect Hair Fair is drawing many people. I know I plan to visit Hair Fair soon.
There is a noticeable change in One Voice… there is way more stuff here than when I first visited. More merchants have joined the fun raiser. Come in and check it out.
Andrew Linden is working on a program/script to cleanup corrupt inventory problems. Presumably the script will go to support so they can fix inventory problems.
Server/Scripting UG
Corruption in this case is duplicate system folders or folders outside the main My Inventory foder. Also, parts of inventory not loading.
We can hope he gets this script working this week.
Main Channel Roll
That went well. It is still slow but faster than last week. Simon Linden is not sure how long a region will be down during the update rolls. If you know the time your region was down, keyword being KNOW, post it in the Deploys thread. (Ignore the wackadoodles posting in the thread.)
I found several interesting articles out early this morning and from late yesterday. These are worth checking out.
Wigs For Kids
Hair Fair
Hair Fair runs from July 14 to 29. This is a huge event and a great opportunity to help out the non-profit Wigs for Kids. This event is usually crowded and lag is a significant problem. A number of things have been done to alleviate lag. Most everything in the regions is non-physical, meaning you can walk through shop walls and fly through the ceilings/roofs. The idea is to reduce the collision information the regions must calculate.
This year they have ideas for personal reduction of lag that I have not heard before. One is to set the Debug Setting: RenderAvatarMaxVisible to 5 rather than the default 35. Press Ctrl+Alt+D to add the ADVANCED menu item to the top menu. You will find the Debug Settings in Advanced. Type or copy RenderAvatarMaxVisible into entry field and change the value. At some point after leaving Hair Fair you will want to change this value back to the default 35.
