I had surgery on my hand for a problem restricting my thumb movement. The Norco pain killer has me sleeping a LOT, which is kind of nice. The bandages make it tough to type. So, I’ll blog a bit less this week and next.

It started raining. So, I’m back home and it has been raining here too.

Lots to do work-wise. So, posting will be intermittent.

Decided to stay longer… not sure which day I will be back. But, I have to be back by the 12th for work stuff.

Today I am off to travel… I plan to be back May 3rd or 4th.

I am taking a laptop, so I might make a post or two. But probably not.

Yesterday my Internet was down. It will be down again April 29 to May 3. I’ll still have access to the net via my phone. I even have the WordPress plugin that lets me manage and post from my phone. But, it is far too tedious to type or dictate articles on my phone. So, it is unlikely I will be posting during that time.

Also, I’ll be traveling this week and next week. So, my posting will be intermittent. It will probably be May 8 or so before I return to more regular posting.

This morning I’ve updated the WordPress software and database. It has lots of nice changes for WP admins and authors.

4/8 – I made it 24 hours without the site hitting its memory limits. So, while I thought the Sunspot theme was the problem, it apparently isn’t. It did better in the last 24 hours than the WP 2015 theme…

Running without Akismet is REALLY a pain. I’ll turn it back on (8:30AM) today.

11:40 – Adsense back on

16:00 – Analytics back on

21:00 – Jetpack back on – 50%

4/9 – 9:30 – Bad Behavior back on

Update 3/29: I have found the source of the problem. It is in the original Sunspot Theme. 🙁 I built my child theme using it. I am looking to see if I can find the problem. That requires digging through the code that runs that theme.

If I cannot find the problem or an easy fix, I’ll be changing the theme, which is a tedious process as I have several modifications that support the pages for various brands of viewers.

You may have noticed odd behavior and changes in the blog over the past days and probably in coming, days. I’ve been running into performance problems with this site. If you notice it on your side, it probably appears as a delay before a page loads. On my side the Admin pages are horribly slow and I see a lot of: Connection lost. Saving has been disabled until you’re reconnected. We’re backing up this post in your browser, just in case.”

It may take a few seconds or over 10 minutes for that connection issue to clear. During that time I can’t save a draft or publish an article. Very frustrating.

Pings and route traces to the server are fine. Researching the problem I find other WordPress users are having similar problems. So, it is unlikely a network problem. Continue reading →
