Merry Christmas and belated Happy Hanukkah! Best wishes for those celebrating other holidays…

Second Life and Virtual Worlds
My Internet is up and down today, mostly down. They are here working on it.
The blog Mesh Body Addicts is making the news. SL Blogger Support (Canary Beck) has an article about its success, 85,000 page views per month. The article is about blogs that serve a niche. See: How one Second Life blogger niched her blog.

Thinking about the idea of making a niche blog they omit a major point. In a changing world, your niche may, likely will, become passé or vanish altogether. I used to cover viewers in great detail. If a person was considering changing to a new viewer, this was the blog to read before changing. But, with the arrival of Oz Linden and enforcement of the ‘shared experience’ concept the Lab has pretty much taken control of viewer development. The whole field of viewer development changed, at least for what it means to me.
A new version of WordPress is out (4.2.3). It is a security update. I want to install it. That means I am backing up my blog so I can unwind the update if I have to. I learned long ago that depending on the hosting company’s backups is too risky.
This means the blog may be down for a few minutes or maybe just glitchy now and then. I have over 12,000 files to download and the database. It takes some time.
Flickr™ has changed the embed code they provide people for displaying Flickr images. That meant I had to change how I embed their images in the blog. I’ll explain some of what you can do with the new embed code. There is a discussion at Flickr about the new code here: New version of Flickr’s embed code.

Surely, you have noticed I use more Flickr images these days. It saves me time and there are so many gorgeous images from Second Life™. Taking the time to find gorgeous places and get great photos… it was becoming work. Embedding an image is easier.
Well, they took out a couple… 🙁 but, next week they’ll look again. Because of the location of the incision, my palm, they are being overly conservative.
I did get a soft bandage. I can bend my wrist and mostly use my hand. I am surprised at how stiff my hand is. I have exercises to do. I can type faster. But, my index finger is really weak and semi numb. They say that may take a few more weeks to return to normal.
Whatever, overall it is better.
