New Dolphin Viewer2 v2.5.9.15037 Review

A new version of the Dolphin Viewer2 is out. The viewer is based on SLV 2.5 version code. There are a number of fixes and a couple of new features. Version are available for Apple, Linux, and Windows.

Download & Install

Download file size is about 24mb. Download Dolphin Viewer.

The only option in the install is which folder to install to. The install apparently wipes out the previous viewer settings. It seems to have kept my color settings.

Pteron Region in Dolphin Viewer

The install also takes over the Windows setting controlling which viewer is used for SLURL’s. I need to update my article on how to reset Windows to use the viewer you prefer for SLURL’s. See: Emerald Viewer vs SLURL (Emerald… that gives away the age of the article.)

Dolphin Viewer Congratulations

Dolphin Viewer

Dolphin Viewer

Today the Dolphin 1 viewer made it to the top of the Linden Third Party Viewer list.

Third Party Viewer Directory

This list is ordered by crash rate. The viewer at the top of the list has the best (least) crash rate. Dolphin has not been in this list because crash reporting is optional and the Lindens lacked the data to rank it. Some minimum number of reports and logins have to be received to be ranked.

The ranking is:
Dolphin 1
SLV 1.23
Phoenix (probably 1050 – 1102 is too new)
Imprudence
SLV 2.6.3
Singularity
SLV Beta 2.6.8
Firestorm (pre-alpha)
Emergence
Ascent

Dolphin Viewer 2.5.6.15005 Review

Second Life

Dancing at Neveriven

A new version of the Dolphin 2 Viewer is out. The released planned for this slot was to be a 2.6 version. But, things change. Bug fixes, features, and the load of changes coming out of the Lab seems to have pushed this release out the door. It may be several weeks before we see the next release. There is lots to upgrade going into 2.6. The Development viewers are coming out in 2.7 versions.

Dolphin Viewer 2.5.5-149985 Released Review

There are some nifty changes and additions in this release. The Dolphin Viewer Download.

Media Filter

If you have read my other reviews, you’ll know I’m not a big fan of the media filter because it is so annoying to use. The result is most people are just going to turn it off, at least I do. Only the paranoid people will put up with the pesky popups.

Dolphin Viewer 2 now has what I think is an important change in how one can use the media filter. Now just domain names can be used in white listing and black listing sites rather then complete URL’s. This should make use of the filter much less annoying. One can now white list “.shoutcast.com” and all the various URL’s based on shoutcast.com will be white listed. You will stop getting pop ups on any parcel using shoutcast.com. Be warned: that leading dot is important. Without the leading dot the entry shoutcast.com will match badguyshoutcast.com and igotushoutcast.com. Be careful how you enter list entries.

Dolphin Viewer 2.5.3.14965 Released Review

Dolphin Viewer is out in a new version. This one adopts the new code from Linden Lab, version 2.5.1.  Some changes have been made and they are listed on the Dolphin web site: Dolphin Viewer 2.5.3.14965 – good bye web profiles! I’ll mention the ones I find interesting… or troubling, here.

Profiles

The avatar profiles have been changed back to SLV1 and early SLV2 style profile. For now the non-web-profiles still work. We can expect them to continue working until the Lab decided to turn off the series 1 viewer and move on. Still it is only a matter of time until they disappear and it becomes web-profiles or nothing.

Yay, we have a new release. You can find the Dolphin Viewer 2 Download here. There is also a new version of the Snowglobe version Dolphin Viewer 1.5.46.3627 (download on the same page). This article is about my experience with 2.5.1 version.

Download & Install

Typical, easy.

The settings from the previous install are retained. I installed over the top of the previous version. All seemed to work without a cache clear.

Dolphin Viewer 2 2.5.0.14583 and Dolphin Viewer 1.5.45.3627 Review

Dolphin Viewers 1 & 2 have new versions out, actually they were out on the 12th and I’m lagging. The Dolphin Viewer 2 (DV2) is based on SLV2.5 code. No new features for it, yet. The Dolphin Viewer 1.5 (DV1) has four new features, which are described on the Dolphin blog. See: Dolphin Viewer

This week Lance announced that the Dolphin Viewers for Linux will be built on openSUSE 11.2… openSUSE announced they were releasing 11.3… so… I’m not sure what Lance is saying. I know some people prefer to be a version behind because the problems and work-arounds are known. So, I can suppose…

Dolphin Viewer 2.4.0.13926 Released-Review

Here is the latest news on the Dolphin Viewer.

Dolphin Viewer 2.4.0

Dolphin 1.5 Development Stops

A couple of weeks ago a poll was being taken to see whether residents wanted the Dolphin Viewer to stay with the series 1 code and user interface (UI) or move on to the series 2 code and UI. The final vote was 76 to 39 for series 2.

Lance is going to shift over… well has shifted over to series 2 code and UI. He plans to maintain the 1.5 based Dolphin Viewer until it is either too much work or Linden Lab bans the use of series 1 viewers on the grid.

New Dolphin Viewer 2 Released

Lance’s new series 2 viewer was released on the 28th. You can read about it and find the download links here: Dolphin Viewer 2 2.4.0.13926.

Lance has a list of the things he likes about the Dolphin Viewer and feels make it better than the Lab’s production viewer. List There are some pretty nifty mods that he has added. I’ll mention the ones I like. Check the list. That PITA bug you hate or that feature you are missing may be there.
