On Oct 4 a new Blender version was released. Get it here.

It is an 86mb download, assuming you get the Zip file for the stand-alone install. I highly advise using the Zip file over the install program. It is much easier to have and run muiltiple versions of Blender using this install method.

Avastar-1.2 Released

The AvaStar RC has finally moved out of RC status to final version. You can read the details here: Avastar-1.2 is Out. Gaia is linking to an older video that givs an overview of AvaStar 1.1. I found it surprisingly up to date with the current AvaStar release.

The information on AvaStar 1.2 says it runs on Blender 2.70 and newer.

The listed new changes are:

Optimized for better and easier workflows
Support for Fitted Mesh.
Many improvements under the hood
Updated documentation

Blender Texturing Tips

Indigo Mertel has a Plurk on an article on Blender Nation: 5 Texturing Tips for Technical Artists. Tis is well worth you time to check out.

The tips are for rendering in Blender. For us in Second Life™ this means they are good for baking textures.

Blender 2.72 Anticipated

The Blender 2.72 RC is out. It seems to be standing up to the users. So, we may sit it release this week. You can get the RC now and will be able to get the final release when it is out at Blender.org.

The developer’s notes for Blender 2.73 have been released. The items they plan to work on for 2.73 are:

Tamito Kajiyama: Freestyle memory optimizationwill go into 2.73 (BF-funded project result).
Thomas Dinges proposes to make Cycles Default as target. He will make a proposal to the list here next week, to outline which work should have to be completed for it (IO mostly).
Freestyle built-in SVG exporterwould be a 2.73 target too.
Dun Liang (randon)’s Windows IME support patchcould also go into 2.73 – allow better Asian character input.
Jeroen Bakker: compositor memory managementis ready for final review. updated with all comments.
Multiview is going to be a candidate, check the great doc from Dalai Felinto.
FBX: there are two addons, the ‘experimental’ one has the latest work on it. Will get tested and improved for 2.73.

There are some other projects that may make it into 2.73. Whether they do or not, they are being discussed and some of them worked on. I find the descriptions rather sketchy.

AvaStar 1.1 To Release

The final version of AvaStar 1.1 is to be released in 48 hours± per Gaia Clary commenting in Blender-AvaStar group (9/28 1PM SLT). That would be Tuesday 9/30… or Wednesday 10/1 depending on where on Earth she and you are located.

The RC 10 is apparently going to get promoted to a main release. So, if you are using RC10 now, you have AvaStar 1.1.

You can download RC10 now via your download page at Machinimatrix.

There is also the possibility to win L$5,000 for being the first to report a reproducible AvaStar bug in RC10. Apparently as I write this there are no bugs reported for RC10.
