Second Life: New Forum Stuff

Navigation & Finding Content

Unread Content

  • The “Unread Content” link has moved. On desktop it’s accessible via your avatar/profile menu; on mobile/tablet it can be found at the bottom of the screen.
  • If Unread Content loads slowly, the fix is to Mark All as Read (via your avatar icon at top right → “Mark Read” option at the bottom of that menu). Mark Site/Forum as Read
  • “Mark Site Read” was moved and renamed. To find it: click your avatar picture in the upper corner → it’s at the bottom of the dropdown menu.
  • Marking individual subforums as read (by clicking the forum icon) is no longer available as it was before. Content Preferences (where threads open)
  • You can set where clicking a thread takes you: to the first post, first unread post, or most recent post.
  • Find it under: Avatar icon → Account Settings → Content Preferences (last radio button = Most Recent). Search
  • The Search function has been improved on desktop — options like “titles only” are now visible directly without having to expand a separate dialog.
  • On mobile, the Search icon (spyglass) is at the bottom of the screen, not the top. Online Indicator
  • A small green pulsing dot next to a username means that person is currently active/online on the forums.
  • You can turn your own indicator off under: Account Settings → Security and Privacy.

Posting & Text Formatting

Text Editor

  • The editor is rich-text based with a toolbar. It requires JavaScript to be enabled — if JS is disabled or blocked (e.g., by a VPN or browser extension), the full editor won’t appear and some features like image uploading will be missing. Numbered/Ordered Lists
  • Numbered lists are auto-incremented: start typing “1.” and each new line is numbered automatically.
  • To exit a list without indenting the next line, press Enter twice on the last list item. Spoilers
  • A Spoiler option now exists in the editor. The spoiler appears as a collapsible box with a “+” icon to expand it. Images
  • You can drag and drop an image file from your desktop directly into the post editor.
  • If Submit doesn’t activate after attaching an image (image-only posts), click the “Insert” button/link that appears after uploading — this enables Submit without requiring text.
  • Images can be resized by clicking and dragging the bottom-right corner of the image within the post.
  • You can paste a picture into the editor, but you cannot paste a new image on top of an existing one (a change from the old version).
  • Double-clicking images to resize them (old method via URL-pasted images) no longer works via that method. Adding Text Around Images/Quotes
  • A new “Insert” helper lets you add text above or below an image or a quoted block — a much-requested and appreciated new feature. Emojis
  • Typing text shortcuts like 🙂 now gives a prompt/option for an emoji.
  • The emoji reaction positions were reshuffled in the upgrade — be careful not to accidentally click the wrong reaction (e.g., “Sad” instead of “Thanks”).
  • Available reactions: Thanks, Like/Agree, Sad, Confused, Laugh.
  • Default text-shortcut emojis (e.g., smiley faces) were initially oversized as a bug in Chrome.
