What new stuff?
New is a relative term and very much an individualized concept in Second Life®. This new stuff is not the ‘Monthly New Stuff’ I usually report on. And it is a couple of months since it first appeared.
For now, this is about the new SL Forum software that dropped in December 2025. In particular, about how to format a post’s text. I am into that. I like to make words pleasantly readable and my tendency to post WALLS of text creates readability problems.
So, what is available?
I experimented to find out what is in there. That experiment is online HERE.
Of course, what is available for formatting is on the page’s Edit/Compose window. See below. There are no [BBCode] short codes as in O L D forums. (AFAIK)
Several of the options are in drop downs. You have to click the down chevron. So, they are not so noticeable.
Other than Formatting
The SL Forum has a section on “Helpful Forum Hints”. While started in 2017 we started getting new posts to the thread in 2025.
This is one of those threads that is (or should be) excluded from the ‘necro-posting’ rules. Otherwise, so much stuff has to be repeated. There is good stuff in the old parts.
The forum got a new version of the Invision Community Forum software in early December 2025. It appears to be IPS4.?. That version info is from a look at the forum’s page code and JavaScript. Some guessing is involved.
Most of the handy tricks and time savers are listed in the ‘Hints’ thread. My experimental post is linked to from there too.
There is a newer thread titled ‘Forum Upgrade,’ dated 12/9/2025, thank you Love Zhaoying. As of today (2/19/2026) it is 13 pages long. I extracted the useful information. It is summarized here.
