Marie points out that Sansar will go Open Alpha this summer for those with VR headsets. Really!?! Is that going to be a question in the signup process? I doubt it. As expensive as headsets are, that would severely limit the number of people. She may be right but, I doubt and hope that isn’t accurate.
Marie quotes Ebbe as saying Sansar will move from SL’s property tax model to a consumption tax model. Many of us think that is an awesome idea. We see SL timidly and slowly moving in that direction too.
In Sansar experience (place) owners may charge a fee or ask for a donation to enter. In SL I am seeing more places requiring a group membership in an entry fee group. I think the increased number of groups we can be in has made that more feasible. But, membership in SL groups is never by monthly or annual subscription, only one time fees.
There is always the problem of paying for a server. In SL the cost of a server is pretty high. One month’s SL fee would pay for my web site for over a year, even after upping my site’s server capability to handle about 100 concurrent users (search crawlers and users can at times swamp my site).
My web site is paid for by traffic and Google Adsense. Something like that is planned to be a part of Sansar. The plan on broad terms seems to be to minimize basic ongoing costs (like rent/hosting) to make it easier to afford a Sansar place/site, while increasing the possibility of selling things and earning income. So, when a Sansar place owner makes money, so too will the Lab. If the owner isn’t making money, Sansar will hopefully be cheap enough for them to hang around until they figure out how to make it big.
