I study apologetics… not just the religious kind but, that too. The class deliberately debates those with opposite beliefs; atheists, pro-abortionist, socialists… If you can’t defend your philosophy, you don’t have one. The informed of a different belief/philosophy system know the weak spots in your thinking. If you have a good philosophy, finding your weak spots allows you to study and strengthen your understanding. If you have a weak philosophy, can’t defend it… then why do you hold to it?
14 Positive Role Model
Set an example… this assumes you are a good example or can be. Postmodern philosophy says everyone is as good as anyone else and good and bad are abstract concepts with no foundation in objective reality. So, why shouldn’t you yell at a bully? Or is that being a bully too? But, if there is no good or bad why not bully?
What if you think whites should be excluded from housing? Cal State is doing that. Is that a positive role model? (reference)
Maintaining hope is a good encouragement.
The idea that we can all come together and hand-in-hand change the world to something better is a utopian fantasy. Get real or your hopes will be crushed.
We will change the world when we understand what we believe and why. When we can defend what we believe, we can change minds. As we win hearts and change minds we form communities of likeminded people. As those numbers grow we form towns, cities, states, and nations.
When we open the borders to other cultures we need time to test their ideas. If they are better, adopt the ideas. If not, if those ideas cannot be defended and their proponents can’t win in debates then discard them.
I generally like Strawberry’s posts and thinking. She seems to mean well at all times and be a sweetheart. But, I don’t see this meme as dealing with the realities of life in the 21st century. It is feel good thing that I think lacks intellectual meat and supports divisive ideals without recognizing them…
She never addresses what do you do with the recalcitrant people that have a hidden agenda? Those that will lie to your face because as community organizers Alinsky has encouraged them to do whatever is necessary to achieve their goals, ends justify means.
What about the fanatically religious that believe god wants them to kill Christians and Jews? The atheists that have no reason not to do whatever is needed to achieve their goals? Kill, rape, steal, whatever… what reason is there not to?
Berry offers no advice for how to handle the real world and human nature that has refused change for 7,000± years. While she is sweet, her thinking on these points annoys me, obviously.
