Figuring out what suits what will be the most unpredictable part… us usual what people will do with the tech is unpredictable. Humans are curious and creative and that leads to amazing results. There is no doubt sex and art are going to be significant aspects of how humans use the tech. So, I give the edge to sensory replacement in VR. It has the best chance of providing the genital simulation humans enjoy. The VR we have now will be able to supply the visual simulation but not the tactile simulation. So, I expect while there will be porn in VR for now it better suits how we deal with art. So, ‘photography’ or whatever we call it in the future, sculpture, music, movies, plays, theater, shows… they will all be changing. Humans will want to create and experience.
The images we create in Second Life are more creative than most real life photography. In RL we manipulate or wait for light to suit us. We find existing places and capture those. In studios we change the surroundings to suit our desire, but we are limited. Real life has restrictions, gravity being a very real one.
In SL many… most… maybe all those limits vanish. We can start a photo by manipulating or building the world in which we will capture the image. Gravity doesn’t exist unless we turn it on… what a concept.
The SL images on Flickr are fascinating because they are created from a world that is pure imagination, someone imagined and made everything in the image. Every leaf, rock, and hair.
