Pine Lake – November 2017

Pine Lake is a post-apocalyptic build in Second Life™.  I’m not that much into doing travel guide stuff for SL. But, occasionally I find a place that is like… Wow! Pine Lake is such a place.

You can get a kinda lame idea of what the place is like from their Flickr Group. The images there today do not do the build justice.

It is the attention to detail that impresses me. Wow! Just wow. The amount of detail is incredible.

Not all the areas are easy to get to. We can fly so that isn’t an issue. Plus, you can double-click teleport in this region, which helps a lot… well, provided you have your viewer set up to TP on double-click.

The region Windlight is good. I doubt I could improve on it. But, I did move the sun around to get some shots.

This is a region where I use my graphics settings for photography… Draw Distance 1024 and LoD @ 4. For exploring you wouldn’t need those changes. The region is isolated. So, the high draw distance isn’t as lag inducing as it is in areas with adjacent regions. I didn’t see any region lag. But, some textures were slow to load. Otherwise, things worked well.

PineLake_021 – A store…

I mouse steer when exploring, W-key and left-click-drag on the avatar to steer. Because of the grass, weeds, and bushes, I had to constantly click on my head. Otherwise, I kept catching ground-cover textures and couldn’t steer.

I also use a Space Navigator when framing shots. So, if you see me standing around for awhile, I am probably using the SN to cam around.

A lot of the things in the region are mesh. So, there are some places where the physics aren’t as one would expect. Walk around it…

This isn’t a role play area, AFAIK. No kink. A moderate region.

I am not clear on how things work in Pine Lake, land-wise. There is no rules or promo at the landing point (Pine Lake/128/128/28). Nor are you hit with ‘BUY A METER’. So, looking at the About Land…

Tralala’s Diner has a group. The dinner seems to be a thing in Pine Lakes. With rats on the dining counter, I can’t see why. The group seems to have some ties to Insilico… which could explain the region’s awesomeness.

Whatever… I was impressed enough to spend a morning photographing there. I had planned to use Black Dragon, but a couple of quick crashes using the latest 2.9.3 build frustrated me and I switched to Firestorm, so no impressive poses or God-Rays. I’ll try BD again later.

Other than moving the sun and a bit of sharpening in Photoshop most of the images show what you’ll see in-region.
