What is: Second Life’s Lab Chat…

Tuesday, 11/10, the Lab posted Introducing Lab Chat – A New Q&A Show in Second Life.

It seems on November 19 @ 10:30 AM in the Linden Endowment for the Arts Theatre Ebbe Altberg/Linden, the Lab’s CEO, will meet with residents for a Q&A session. The Lab is proposing that this be a regular event. I suppose like the Linden Monthly Meet Up.

For many this is exciting. Ebbe can speak without inhibition. He is the one that decides what is confidential and what is ready for public consumption. So, we often get new information from him. He will be answering resident questions at this first Lab Chat. There is no word on whether or not he will be a regular participant, we can hope.

There will be a Lab Chat Team made up of these residents; Draxtor Despres, Gentle Heron, Marianne McCann, Elrik Merlin, Petlove Petshop, Inara Pey, Arduenn Schwartzmann, Aisling Sinclair, Devin Vaughan, Saffia Widdershins, and Jo Yardley. They will filter questions submitted in this thread: Introducing Lab Chat – A New Q&A Show in Second Life. We have seen Drax and Jo fielding questions at other events and for their radio show. They do a decent job of distilling questions to essentials and having interests similar to most residents. Many residents know Eric and Saffia from the Designing Worlds show. Inara is good at chasing down answers and explaining them.

So, I think having them select questions is a good thing. I also suspect that since the questions are on the SL Forum Ebbe is going to be looking through them prior to the meeting. If he does that, he will be well prepared. So, I think this will be a productive meeting with new and interesting material/news. I stopped going to the Linden Monthly meet up because it was chaotic and more of a zoo like thing to my way of thinking. I thought about whether the Lindens were at the zoo or the residents… I think the analogy breaks in several places. I think both residents and Lindens are learning about each other. But, I didn’t see much productive communication.

Seems many questions, so far, are mid size paragraphs… and there are the questions that better informed residents already know the answers to. So, if you see one of those and know the answer, jump in. Weeding those questions out will give more time to questions without answers.

There are some intriguing questions, which I look forward to hearing answered. My only questions all regard Project Sansar. As yet we don’t know how focused or broad the meeting will be. I expect it is going to be less focused and broad. But, I don’t think we are going to get a load of Sansar secrets… yet. But, some. Maybe I’m wrong and we will get lots. Wouldn’t that be nice?

The meeting will be recorded, that means voice will be in use, and a video posted. Presumably in the Lab’s SL YouTube channel. That means those that are normally asleep at 10:30 AM SLTime don’t have to stay up.
