Developments in Myst-Uru

…change it. That interest often ignores the intellectual property rights of Cyan Worlds and others. They also often attempt to demand Cyan do things their way and in their time frame. OpenUru.org respects the intellectual property rights, usually at the expense of timely progress. They work to do things Cyan’s way and whatever they can to help will time lines. I see this as Aesop’s The Tortoise and the Hare, but with some morality overtones. Curren… Continue reading

Obduction vs Uru Live

…s planned ETA is mid to late 2015. What about Uru? For the last five years Cyan Worlds has been busy keeping the company alive. Only in their spare time have they worked on MOULa or what many know as Uru Live. In 2010 Uru Live was put online as a free to play game. Since 2010 Cyan and fans have been in the process of converting it to an open source game. Both the Guild of Writers (GoW), a Myst-Uru fan group, and Open Uru, another Myst-Uru fan grou… Continue reading

Plasma as developed by Cyan used third party proprietary software. All that non-Cyan proprietary code had to be removed from the open source version of Plasma or those sections had to re-licensed by those that wanted to use Plasma to develop client side versions of Uru Live. The community started out and conti… Continue reading

…ru (Myst Online: Uru Live) is looking dated. But, it is great fun to play. Cyan Worlds has their Kickstarter for a their new game: Obduction. They have just added a new incentive for people to support the project. If they go over the target by $200,000, they will add Oculus Rift support. Considering they are using the Unreal Engine for the game, the Oculus should provide an awesome immersive experience. I think supporting Obduction will indirectly… Continue reading
