Second Life News 2019 w19

There was no Third-Party Dev UG meeting last week, so no news from there. Not much from the Server-Scripting UG meeting either.

The last week’s updates seem to have improved our chances of staying connected. I managed to fly my Shergood EC-135 around the Bellisseria continent taking off, making 78 crossings, and one of my better landings at the busy Dog Bone landing strip.

My flight log from 5/2019 Post Disconnection Fix

However, earlier Sunday when flying in Eden-Fruit Islands I was being unseated consistently on the first crossing. Moving from landing field to field I found it tended to be the first to third crossing. Changes between the EC-135 and different H-160’s and my script & attachment counts didn’t make a noticeable difference. So… server or connection is the likely problem…

Simon Linden tells us the stats on region crossing disconnects are greatly improved. He will be doing more work to improve crossings.

Servers

There is a new Deploy post. Version #19.04.25.526669 is rolling to the main channel. It has the usual Internal Changes and some EEP Regression fixes.

Blue Steel, Le Tigre, and Magnum get the same #19.05.01.526856 update. Only Internal Fixes are listed for this update.

Viewers

The main viewer is 6.2.0.526190. Released in week #17 this is the EAM – Estate Access Manager version. This should make banning people from regions much more effective… from the region owner’s viewpoint.

Second Life Bakes On Mesh Viewer version 6.1.1.525409 – Released week #13. Be sure to read Getting Ready for “Bakes on Mesh” Bodies to know what is coming.

Second Life EEP Viewer version 6.2.0.526104 – Released week, #16. They have been working on viewer side issues. I did notice in the server updates that some EPP regressions fixes are included.

Second Life Maintenance Viewer version 6.2.1.526845 – NEW. The previous version was released in week #13. This version has 75 issue fixes. See the release notes for a list.

Second Life Project 360 Snapshot Viewer version 5.1.6.515934  – Last updated in 2018 week #10.

Other Viewers

Not a lot happening with ‘Other Viewers’ this week.  I suspect devs are working out how they will handle EEP and BoM.

There is a helpful post in the forum about Firestorm fixes for a slow loading viewer and viewer failure to launch because of video issues on older computers. The fix is to turn off Video Card Benchmarking.

  1. While logged out of Firestorm.
  2. Right-click the desktop shortcut for Firestorm → Properties → Shortcut tab.
  3. In the “Target” text box, go to the end of the text, *add a space* and then add this exact text to the end: –noprobe. [Important Note: a space proceeds the — ]
    1. eg) “C:\Program Files (x86)\FirestormOS-Release\FirestormOS-Release.exe” –set InstallLanguage en –noprobe
  4. Click “OK” to apply to save changes and launch Firestorm using the Desktop shortcut. (Note that if you use the pinned application on your taskbar, make sure you pin the shortcut, not the running viewer.)

Other News

Not much happening ‘Other News’… Fantasy Faire is coming to an end. The SL Birthday celebration is gearing up. Various events are ‘eventing’, like Return to The Darkness – May 5 to 28.

Bellisseria is still popular and selling out. The Moles haven’t been able to keep up with demand. The little Dog Bone landing strip is way popular and often busy. GTFO stations are showing up in in the area. Rumor is we are getting a new version choice for the Bellisseria houseboats.

Word is out that the region Arowana (Map URL) is for boat testing. This is a Premium region with no scripts and a 20-minute return time. Makes a great place for testing script impact on a region. This region is next to the Orville Airport (Map URL).

Oz Linden just added a wiki page LSL HTTP Server URL Registration that talks about outbound http backoff.

  1. So lost, we should stick this script inside our mod items?

Does this mean we’re going to be losing items more in the future?

Who should and under what conditions is this/should this be done?
