Servers

Updates were planned. A problem was discovered last minute and neither the main or RC channels updated. Simon Linden explained at the Server-Scripting UG Tuesday. The Deploys post now reflects that change of plans.

[2019/02/26 12:02]  Simon Linden: Let’s see … well, for server news, our update this morning got cancelled by another last-minute problem we discovered

[2019/02/26 12:03]  Simon Linden: That stops tomorrows updates as well, but I believe we’re planning on doing restarts of all the regions on the RC channels

[2019/02/26 12:03]  Simon Linden: … and I’m working with another colleague as we speak helping to sort that issue out

[2019/02/26 12:04]  Simon Linden: That’s my excitement for the week, so the table is open for topics or discussion

One of the things to happen with the planned update was a channel with the UDP API disabled. This would test viewers to see if they were in some way still dependent on the UDP API. Those developing viewers or if you want to test can visit Mesh Sandbox 3 in Aditi. It has the planned update running.

You're only here for a short visit. Don't hurry. Don't worry.

Some experimenting with whether or not their viewer is UDP dependent or not have seen some odd behavior. Whirly Fizzle did some testing and reports here.

It seems you inventory will load, the list. But you cannot fetch any of the assets.

So, Firestorm 5.0.7 users have about a week left before that viewer is totally crippled and then soon blocked. Update early. Avoid problems.

Viewers

The main viewer remains 6.0.1.522263. Last updated in week #50, 2018… 11 weeks ago. We are expecting an update soon™.

Second Life Bugsplat Viewer version 6.1.0.524670 – New. The previous update was last week, #8.

Second Life EAM Viewer version 6.1.0.524240 – New. These are the changes we knew were coming last week. Previous update week #5.

Second Life Love Me Render Viewer version 6.0.2.523177 – This updated in week #04.

Second Life Project 360 Snapshot Viewer version 5.1.6.515934 – Last updated in 2018 week #10.

Second Life Project Bakes On Mesh Viewer version 6.0.2.524367 – Updated last week, #8.

Second Life Project EEP Viewer version 6.0.2.524476 – Updated last week, #8. We were expecting to get what the Lindens think is the last fix this week. It hasn’t made it yet.

People are starting to notice the black square stars. When you have a non-EEP viewer and enter a region running an EEP capable version you see black stars. If you are trying to video and/or take snapshots in the region you’ll need to get this project viewer to fix the stars.

See my Using the EEP Viewer – Second Life.

Other Viewers

Kokua Release RLV 6.0.1.44856 and NORLV 6.0.1.44855 – This version has a teleport crash fix and others. Plus an RLV update.

RLV – There is the viewer and then the code that makes a viewer RLV capable. It gets confusing which is being talked about. The RLV code and viewer has been updated (RLV 2.9.26) and some fixes added. The code is in the RLViewer. So, the two are interwoven beyond separation.

Ryan Schultz posted about Linden Lab Is Looking to Hire a Photographer. This would be a Marketing Content Specialist. If you are interested, check the details and links on Ryan’s site.

I am curious about what we might read into this. The content is to promote Second Life™ and Sansar™. So, is the Lab planning new promotional efforts? Are they nearing the place where they feel it is time to start pushing Sansar?

Second Life and Adult Content – Hamlet has pointed out that 25% Of Second Life Land Mass Now Adult-Rated. Seems reasonable to me. The SL land zoned for Adult content and behavior has been increasing for years. Tyche Shepherd tracks regions and notes the class; PG, Moderate, or Adult. So, we have good information.

My take is Hamlet tends to think the Adult nature of SL is… not a good marketing aspect of SL. Or maybe it just annoys him that so many focus on that aspect of SL; sex and violence. I think as a progressive Hamlet would expect and support the change as it reflects RL. Look at the videos of the LBGTQ events in San Fran for extreme sex and the crime stats in LA… or California in general. Chicago and Detroit are good examples of growing violence.

Progressive areas of the USA are Democrat controlled, California’s San Francisco and LA, Chicago, Detroit, and NYC. All places where violence, crime, and… oh yeah… poverty are rapidly increasing. So, why would a progressive think SL would not follow as it seems a majority of SL users are Progressive?
