We have some news. Nothing too earth-shaking Firestorm did get their Animesh supporting viewer released. EEP server-side is behind expectations by another week. But better to fix before grid-wide release. The third-party dev UG (YouTube video) was last Friday.
No roll to the main channel. We are staying on version #19.01.25.523656. They found an issue while the planned to roll version was in RC last week. So, there will be a new RC of this one Wednesday. But the regions reaching two weeks without a restart will be getting a restart.
An issue for some has come up. If the regions are restarted at different times their day/night cycle gets out of sync with adjacent regions. When the main grid is restarted for an update all those regions are pretty much in sync for daytime. Regions that have been restarted at various times for some reason get left out of the two-week no update restart, at least I think that is what is being complained about.
Seems the Lindens are not deliberately trying to do a daylight time sync. It is just however it works out. They consider when daylight happens as up to the region owner.
Now comes EEP, Enhanced Environment Project. The basic 4-hour day-night cycle we have lived with for forever is changing. EEP regions, currently Blue Steel and Le Tigre, may have different day cycle lengths. That is part of the THING.
Think about what that does to sailors, flyers, and truckers… Zipping from region to region can be a crazy kaleidoscope of day and night. Fortunately, Firestorm and the Linden’s SL Viewer have the ability to NOT use a region’s default Windlight. But you do have to change the setting. So, I’m not sure what the problem actually is. I switch to using my settings, not the region’s when I fly.
Blue Steel and Le Tigre are to get version #19.02.16.524516, a redo of last week’s version with new fixes.
Magnum will get version #19.02.16.524515. Internal changes…
The main viewer remains 220.127.116.1122263. Last updated in week #50, 2018… 10 weeks ago.
Second Life Bugsplat Viewer version 18.104.22.1684348 – New. The previous update was in week #5.
Second Life EAM Viewer version 22.214.171.1243351 – Updated last in week #5. There are some improvements to Estate Management coming.
Second Life Love Me Render Viewer version 126.96.36.1993177 – This updated in week #04. There is a pending fix. They think this is the last issue before this one is ready for promotion to default viewer.
Second Life Project 360 Snapshot Viewer version 188.8.131.525934 – Last updated in 2018 week #10.
Second Life Project Bakes On Mesh Viewer version 184.108.40.2064367 – New. The previous update was in week #50.
Second Life Project EEP Viewer version 220.127.116.114476 – New. Previous update in week #7. Oz Linden says they are getting rally close to EEP going into RC, maybe next week. There is a ‘one last’ fix in QA that we are likely to see roll out next week.
EEP is now on Blue Steel and Le Tigre RC channels of the main grid servers, something near 20% of the grid. See my Using the EEP Viewer – Second Life.
The lindens are sounding anxious to get EEP and BoM out. Both are still in project status. We will hopefully see these move to RC status sooooon.
A maintenance viewer is in QA. We are likely to see it next week.
Oz Linden is expecting one of the viewers, maybe BugSplat, to become the default viewer next week.
The move to Visual Studio 2017 is proceeding. Sounds like they are almost done with all the viewer support that has to be compiled before a viewer can be compiled. Once that is done, I suspect some of the viewers still in RC and almost certainly the project viewers will be recompiled using 2017. As there is no version 2018 (Microsoft is on 2-year development cycle for Visual Studio), the Lab will be one version behind and will likely catch up in their next update pass.
What does this update mean for you? Noting very specific. In general, it means better… faster, fewer bugs, smarter ways to do things… This mostly improves the lives of Linden programmers. When they can do their job better we get a better viewer.
