Second Life News 2019 w05

There is no Deploys thread this week. From the Server-Scripting UG we hear,

[12:05] Simon Linden: For server news, there wasn’t an update to the main channel today but tomorrow will see 3 different RCs
[12:06] Simon Linden: We’ll have a new maintenance update in one channel
[12:06] Simon Linden: Another that only has internal changes
[12:07] Simon Linden: and _maybe_ an update for the EEP servers, but Rider is going after a bug that’s blocking that from moving forward
[12:07] Joe Magarac (animats): The “time is stuck” bug?
[12:07] Simon Linden: exactly Joe
[12:07] Simon Linden: yeah that one is a show-stopper …. and he’s working on it right now

Not much happening that is crossing the finish line. The Lindens are working on things that will improve Second Life. But, aren’t things that we can click on. The compilers are updating, parts of the Linux operating system that runs SL is being updated, more things are on their way to the cloud…

Work on EEP is all about catching a bug… until they find it, we won’t see anything happen on our side.

Other Viewers

Black DragonUpdated to 3.4.1. There is a change in key-binding. Looks to be a decent improvement. Also, selecting mesh has been improved. And there are other tweaks to the better.

Cool VL Viewer1.26.22.32-Windows-x86-64 New in this release:

  • Added support for auto-selecting a mute by name entry when opening the “Mute list” floater.
  • Added a “Mute by name” action to the “Sounds list” floater.
  • Implemented a workaround in the CEF plugin code to properly draw scrollable web pages when opened in a newly created instance of CEF (with the latest versions of the latter you could need a scroll-down event to be issued before the page would start rendering: probably a race condition bug in CEF).
  • Extended Lua scripting. See the Lua scripting and viewer automation feature article for details.
  • Windows only: adopted LL’s latest Dullahan pre-built library for the CEF plugin.
  • Code cleanup and some minor optimizations.

Firestorm – No new word. It is close to the end of the month…

Kokua Viewer6.0.1.44619 – This only updates RLV to fix a bug fixed in the RLV base. Otherwise the Kokua viewer is the same as the previous version.

RLViewer – This viewer updated to take care of the RLV bug. v2.9.25.2

Linden Lab is celebrating Privacy Day… how quaint. See: Second Life Supports Data Privacy Day. We have more privacy in SL than we do iRL… We could live in Venezuela where the liberal politicians promised to help the low income people and do away with corruption…

Hamlet thinks he found something funny. See Second Life User Experience Glitches Hilariously Illustrated. The artist he points to is Nylon Pinkney. I suggest you start with Nylon’s albums and look at SL Glitches Out. I didn’t find any cartoons to make me laugh. I see the cartoons as more about situational irony than humor.

Hamlet also pointed out that YouTube may be an excellent marketing tool or even market for SL builders. See: How Sims 4 Content Creators Make A Good Living From YouTube. If THEy can do it, we certainly should be able to…

Loverdag is doing a series on postcard pictures from Second Life. This could be a fun meme others.
