Firestorm Beta 6.0.1 is out in public beta form. This version adds support for animesh. If you don’t keep up with ‘in development projects’ and are wondering what animesh is, the Firestorm 6.0.1 announcement explains. It provides links to sample animesh, sandboxes, and the documentation.

Firestorm Beta 6.0.1 Dec 2018

The 6.0.1 download is fast, the install easy and in a sperate folder. This allows you to have 5.0.7 or 5.1.7 and 6.0.1 Beta installed. You can then use either.

This version has lots of bugs fixes including Vivox voice and some improvements to some user-tools.

Performance…

5.1.7 – Porch w/Sun-Shadow-Projector @ 256m DD – 42± FPS
6.0.1 Beta – Ground level on my porch: 73± FPS*

5.1.7 – Skybox Green Room 1500m Elv – 100± FPS
6.0.1 Beta – Skybox Green Room 1500m Elv – 152± FPS

5.1.7 – Neisonia Safe Hub w/25 Avatars – 19-30± FPS
6.0.1 Beta – Neisonia Safe Hub w/28 Avatars – 30-45± FPS

*My neighbor has changed, again. The current build may improve my FPS. But, not likely this much.

This version does seem to have higher FPS. After flying my helicopter for 30 or 40 minutes I did crash. But, it is too soon to decide if 6.0.1 is more or less stable.

Using the viewer today I find it is SLOW in most use. At the Sever-Scripting UG meeting, I ran 13-25 FPS with 29 people around. Earlier playing in Amazon River I also had low FPS with only a couple of avatars around, 15-25. So, I am undecided if the viewer is faster or actually slower.

Time to full texture render seems about the same.
