Busy with RL last week and looks like this week. The Adobe updates that screwed things are not helping.

The main channel is getting an update to version #18.10.25.521081. This version is apparently the same as last week’s version 18.10.19.520868, but with some fixes to the logging. That version was all Internal Changes.

Blue Steel and Le Tigre will update to version #18.11.01.521328, listed as about Land impact/streaming costs

Magnum gets version #18.11.01.521329, with Logging improvements and land impact/streaming costs

Other News

Adobe 2019 – Adobe missed it on their QA. While Photoshop and Bridge seem OK, Illustrator and certainly Premiere are now unusable. I can get 5 minutes of editing done in Premiere then wait 15+ for it to catchup. Render time for the videos is now ridiculous.

The standard fix being suggested is to roll back to a previous version. So, from 2019 to the newest version of 2018. That helped, but rolling just Premiere and Illustrator back did not solve my problems. I may have to remove all of Adobe’s 2019 versions. Sheeeesh! Sucks.

Seems large numbers of people are hitting the problem. A common recommendation in that crowd is to update your NVIDIA drivers. I’m on the latest version. So, that isn’t a ‘for-sure’ fix.

Firestorm – The Firestorm Team is asking for volunteers. See Help Wanted!

This isn’t just an opportunity for programmers. The team has volunteers working in a number of areas. Check out the request and see if something sounds fun.

Sansar – A new record of 73 concurrent users was set…

Creator Rights – The Lab has published a post on I.P. Rights and DMCA responses. There is no new information about what they are. All that is really said is your rights are a concern for the Lab and they take it seriously. That is about it.

What seems to have triggered the post is the Catwa-GAEG dispute over a UV map. (Ref: The Latest Second Life Drama… Coming After You.) Can UV Maps be copyrighted? Surprisingly while the answer is yes, it is way more complex than a simple yes or no.

If you haven’t heard of Chinese-Walls in the creative fields, you have missed the nuances of building something similar while not copying it. It is sort of like making a car cover that custom fits a specific model of car. The car maker owns the car design and its marketable shape. How much of that shape can the cover makers copy?

A little more toward the UV Map problem, what happens if I make a car to fit within the cover made for the other car? Does the first car maker or the cover maker get to sue? Or am I within my rights to make a new car that fits within the cover?

Christmas Shopping – Linden Lab is going to put together a Christmas Shopping Event: Upcoming Official Inworld Shopping Event For Merchants. This is an opportunity for merchants to get in on the event.

It will run from December 17 to January 4. Sign up using this form.

SL Profiles – Seems for a time our profiles were not accessible. Problem has been fixed.

Glaciers – If you are into glaciers and their advance and retreat cycles.
