Strawberry Singh has and article about new ‘makeover’ businesses appearing in SL, The Makeover Agency in Second Life. iRL there are makeover businesses, promotions, and parties. iRL young people are taught how to dress and groom. With all the new tech there are possibilities our parents never thought of. My mom never wove lights into her hair… She never bought Halloween ‘cosmetics’, stage makeup, yes. Zombie cosmetics, no.

iRL part of the fun of being female is all the choices available in clothes and makeup. Choices to a bewildering level. And the rules of what actually works with what while often totally arbitrary are sacred and in some circles and must be broken in other circles with either likely to bring ridicule if improperly broken or followed.

It seems every week there are new beauty and care products, rainbow hair & brows, body lava, lip art, shaved undercuts, glitter – iridescent – color changing – neon-looking makeups, 3D nail art (tooth-nail-art nails looking like teeth – eek!), jelly eyeliner, water-color hair colors, glue-on-face chains, and more. And color combinations I would never think of are a certainty in the cosmetics business.

We have to figure out how all of the options fit together, what works with our skin, shape, and hair as well as what is acceptable at which occasions, work, party, shopping, pc vs Trump political rally… We can experiment, rely on friends, read magazines, or hire consultants to help us figure how to use the new things triggering our mom’s ‘What did you do to your face?’

Hamlet should be surprised the SL makeover businesses didn’t start sooner not that it is here.
