[11:19] Grid Status Update: Scheduled Second Life Maintenance: Scheduled – On Wednesday, August 15th, we will be undergoing scheduled maintenance to Second Life starting at 6AM PDT. During this time, residents may be logged off and will not be able to log in until maintenance is complete. Please keep an eye on this blog for updates.

So, we have some down time ahead. Early Monday morning there was a previous bit of planned down time.

Servers

The main channels is getting an update, version #18.07.20.518086. This is reported as Internal Changes.

An update is scheduled for Blue Steel, Le Tigre, and Magnum. As of my writing which version had not been decided.

Viewers

The main viewer is version 5.1.7.517973. It came on in week #32.

Second Life Animesh Viewer version 6.0.0.518579 – This is new! Previously this has been in the Project Viewer class. This week it bumps up to an RC viewer.

Second Life Bugsplat Viewer version 5.1.8.518305 – This version came out in week #32.

Second Life Voice Viewer version 5.1.8.518310 – Released in week #32. Oz tells us another version of this viewer is in QA. So, we will soon see it update.

Second Life Project 360 Snapshot Viewer version 5.1.6.515934 – Last updated in week #10. This is one of those things the Lindens want to do, but other things crowd in front of it.

Second Life Project Bakes On Mesh Viewer version 5.1.7.518013 – This version released in week #32.

Second Life Project EAM Viewer version 5.2.0.518362 – This is a new Project Viewer that has been in the works and talked about for some time. The Lindens describe it as;

This shiny new viewer is a brave foray into improving the state of Estate Access Management! We can’t wait to see what you think about it. Here’s what you’ll find:

  • New “Access” tab in the Region/Estate floater with subtabs for “Estate Managers”, “Allowed”, “Allowed Groups”, and “Banned”
  • Recording banned date, banned by, and last login for each banned account †
  • Search & Sort within each of the sub-tabs
  • Copy Banlist & Allowed-list
  • Added a confirmation for adding or removing from a list
  • More Estate Managers!
  • We’re upping the number to 15. Remember, with great power comes great responsibility.

†these features only available going forward.

As always, please file a Jira to tell us about any problems you discover or request additions or feature changes to this functionality.

Simon Linden hopes to soon make some viewer changes to improve region crossings.

Other Viewers

Cool VL Viewer updates to version 1.26.22.15 Windows-x86_64-Setup

Firestorm will be blocking their version 5.0.1 as of Aug 14. So, if you are on that version, you’ll need to update.

Firestorm only allows the 3 latest versions of their viewer to run. So, if you are running 5.0.1, you are 4 versions behind. If you are wanting to know what has changed in the version beyond yours, click the categories drop down in the right column and select Firestorm. You’ll have to scroll through articles about Firestorm to find just the update articles. But, they are there. Two in 2018 and a couple in 2017.

Kokua Viewer updates to version 5.1.7. This update brings it up to par with the Linden viewer. (Ref) Plus, there is an esoteric RLV fix in @standtp. See the announcement for details. Basically, it can be disabled.

Other News

Did you know there is a free hunt at Free Dove (URL) each month? I didn’t.

Free Dove was a regular stop for me when I first came to Second Life. Then I got over it and considered it a place only for the new. But, Ryan Schultz’ Steals, Deals, and Freebies points out some nice designers are supporting the hunts with free but nice stuff. A lot of it is mesh for Maitreya, Belleza, and Slink.

So, check it out.

Second Life population declining… really!?! (Thread) There is a thread in the forum titled Secondlife declining player base. [sic] It is full of opinions and few if any facts.

The Lindens are watching the thread. They are looking for ideas about why people stay or leave. I don’t know that there will be much meat for the Lindens. But, maybe.

  1. Hi, Nalates. I’m pleased to see you mention the Free Dove mini hunts. My store has been in them about once a year for the last several years. Like you, I equipped my new avatar at the Free Dove (more than ten years ago, oh my!) and supporting the Dove is one way I pay it forward. The owner puts a lot of effort into keeping the place updated. I still send new people over there. It’s also a good place to set out from on a Heterocera mainland hike – the road runs past, right outside.
