Second Life Media Update Viewer version 5.1.1.512264 – This is a new branch of the viewer. This version was posted January 30, 2017. Release Notes. The Lindens describe it as:

This release of the Viewer pulls in a raft of updates to the built in media support that were not quite ready to be integrated when the 64 bit Viewer (Alex Ivy) was released.

It is comprised of various fixes, updates, security patches and improvements for CEF (Chromium Embedded Framework) that is the basis for the built-in web browser and VLC that provides support for video media playback.

In addition, fixes are included to Dullahan (the third-party library that uses CEF) as well as all the media plugin code itself.

As per the Alex Ivy 64-bit viewer, there is no Linux version.

Cookies

The option to not accept cookies has been removed due to complexities of not doing so in the in-viewer browser. For a more controlled cookie experience, an external full-featured browser may be better.

This version includes about a dozen and half fixes.

Black Dragon has a release 3.0.2 out. There is also a tutorial on using projector lights on NiranV’s site.

Other News

One of the nude beaches and BDSM regions changed its region name from Nude to SunLand. Seems they had multiple regions and are consolidating into a single region. The SunLand region had many of the popular places in it. But, they gave that region up and moved to Nude.

Now they are changing the Nude region’s name to SunLand. Confusing? Try using your LM’s to get there.

I can only speculate on why the changes. What I do know is such changes are confusing. Plus, when I am using LM’s and they don’t get me where they are supposed to take me, I move them to a RETRY folder. In a week or two, I’ll try again. If they continue to fail, I delete them.

If I didn’t just love a place, or I can’t remember why I had the LM… I’ll probably delete it on the first fail.

Changing region names seems to be a good way to lose visitors. But, in this case, the owners have used the name since 2007. They wanted to keep it. It doesn’t seem to have diminished the number of people visiting. There are typically 20 to 30 people in the region at any time.

If you are a longtime patron of SunLand you’ll be happy it is back. But, while your old LM’s will land you in the correct region, they won’t land you in the right places.

Landmark Organization

I put landmarks in folders. I probably will hit some wall for too many folders, if that is possible. Within the system Landmarks folder, I now start with years. Then have my subfolders for shopping, furniture, dancing, …

I am working toward getting my LM’s down to two years. I am going through my 2016 LM’s now. I try to visit places via those LM’s. If I remember the place or it was/is a favorite and it fails, I may look for it via search and in-world map or move it to my RETRY folder for follow up. Otherwise, I delete it.

When I have made it through a subfolder I drag the folder to my 2018 folder. Then merge items in category folders with similar names.

I have also started rating places. Those places I like get renamed with a ‘01 – ‘ at the start of the LM name.

Since some places have associated information like rules and/or additional landing points, I often put the collection in a folder. It is a bit tedious gathering all the stuff up. But, it saves time later.

Also, some places just don’t tell you where the fun stuff is. As I find it I add notes to a notecard I keep with the LM. Also, I may note if I have a special outfit for the region, Roleplay things
