Servers

This week (Tuesday) the main channel is not being updated or restarted. The RC channels are getting an update and that requires a restart.

Mazidox Linden writes the Deploys announcement even more briefly than Caleb did. Comparing the version number going to each of the three RC channels it appears they are all getting the same package.

The Release Notes list some improvements and a known bug.

Improvements:

  • Further improvements to offline IM delivery when you log in.
  • Objects that are unable to enter a parcel now generate useful error messages.
  • IM to Email will no longer turn itself off.
  • Improved internal logging
  • Internal server changes

The known bug and a work-around: “Snapshots to E-mail currently fail if you first open the Send via E-mail dialog in a region with this RC build. A viewer-side fix is coming out shortly; in the meantime, the easiest workaround is to log in first to a Second Life Server region and open the Send via E-mail dialog. Snapshot e-mails will then work until you log out.”

I don’t know if Mazidox writes the text of the Release Notes or another programmer does. But, this week’s notes was more informative, which may just mean the fixes were more useful to users than Lindens. Or the writer may know more about what is going on.

Viewers

The main Second Life™ viewer is version 5.0.1.323027, the same as last week, several weeks…

Second Life Love Me Render Viewer version 5.0.2.323361 – No update from last week.

Second Life Maintenance Viewer version 5.0.2.323567 – No update from last week.

Second Life Project 360 Snapshot Viewer version 4.1.3.321712 – No update from last week.

Second Life Project Alex Ivy Viewer version 5.1.0.501863 – No update from last week.

Work on the viewers is pretty steady. So, the lack of updates may suggest they are having some problems, QA may be finding some issues. When QA finds something we don’t see that build released as an RC version.

I do expect to see some updates soon. But, I also thought the TPVD group was meeting the 24th. Since I usually can’t make that meeting I rely on Pantera Północy’s videos to know what was said. The next TPVD meeting is scheduled for March 10th.
