Photoshop: 5 Things You Didn’t Know About Masks

Every so often a find a tutorial on some part of Photoshop loaded with stuff I didn’t know. It isn’t that I know a lot about PS, I just don’t often find PS tutorials that interest me.

Being able to mask the mask… is going to be SOOOoooo handy. And adjusting the mask’s contrast… things got much easier.

Below is the image I used to try out the lesson. Not that great… before or after. But, I think I added a bit of pop and drew out more detail. Whatever, I now have more control over my adjustment layers.

I think the above image is rather flat… has a dullness to it.

Other than the sky, the changes are subtle. If I wanted to use the image, it would need a lot of work. The foreground mountain needs more contrast and detail, the river, the part to the left, needs more contrast and detail too. While I have shadows enabled the Windlight in the region is killing them. To make the area look great I would need to tweak Windlight to get a better starting image. But, it was a good candidate for trying the masking techniques I was learning.
