Second Life Bits 2014-49

Holiday food and naps are taking their toll on news releases for Second Life™. Most of my SL news sources are turning into travel guides. Most are at least interesting. But, I look at the pictures. If those are interesting then I read the article. Otherwise I’m on to something else.

Ciaran Laval has an article up, It Started With Da Boom, which is about the first 16 regions created in Second Life. I had not known that The Ivory Tower Of Primitives in Natoma was part of the original 16 regions. Ciaran includes a video by Torley of the 2001 Second Life, below.

Wanderers – a short film by Erik Wernquist
Speaking of travel guides, there is an awesome short video on the possible future of humans. It must have some age on it as it uses Carl Sagan’s (1934-1996) voice. But, it just recently appears on Vimeo.

The Telegraph Warns About Facebook
An article in the UK’s Telegraph warns of new privacy concerns in regard to Facebook. See: Facebook can gain direct access to your mobile and take pictures or make videos at any time, MPs warn.

I didn’t like the permissions I had to give the FB App. So, don’t have it installed. That is true of several other apps I’ve been interested in.

eBay and Cyber Monday
Is Cyber Monday an American only thing? Whatever, if you are upgrading a computer, there will be deals on eBay Monday December 1.

Apparently Staples is going for a big Cyber Monday too.

Does love make sex better for most women?
Penn State has completed research in an August 2014 study attempting to answer that question. See: Does love make sex better for most women? I suppose you can guess the answer, however the numbers are interesting. But, they only interviewed 95 women. So, I don’t see it as an authoritative study.

My personal experience is that trying to find love in Second Life is risky, more so than in RL. Watching friends go through their experiences questing for love has convinced me that in SL it is more about simple hookups than true love.

Hamlet continues the Jenn Frank series with: SL Sex With a RL Lover – Jenn Frank’s “All the Spaces Between Us” (Part 2). Jenn was obviously new to SL sex and being in her 20’s a bit short on decadence.

OSGrid
This virtual world is still offline. No new news released since Oct 15. It’s been offline for months now. Will it ever come back? And if it does, how many users will have moved on? So, far no clues.

Alternative SL Market Place
Inara has an article up about an alternative market for Second Life residents. See: DX Exchange offers SL Marketplace alternative.

Inara points out why DX Exchange faces some tough competition from the SL Market Place. Basically the ease of use of the SL MP for customers and vendors puts DX Exchange as a huge disadvantage.

Hamet adds a few words here: DX Exchange Adds POLi Payments & Alipay Payment Options for Asian & Australian SLers (NWN Partner News).

SecondLife Subreddit
Reddit is being discussed over at SLUniverse. See: SecondLife Subreddit. In general the opinion seems to be running pretty negative. That matches my experience. What is yours?
