Second Life Interesting

Strawberry Singh with her fun nature does a fashion blog and a hilarious Plurk line (example she Plurked about: Brown Vag) I check both each day. She finds awesome skins and lingerie. Great photography. But today she surprised me and posted about doing a promotional piece for Linden Lab. See the image. I think it is one of the best promotional pieces for Second Life that I’ve seen.

Strawberry's Blog and Art

To see it on the Second Life site, you need to log out of the SL web sites. Then visit SecondLife.com. You may not see it as the first image. However there is a pager button in the images so you can look through the images. I have all the ones that came up for me, 5, after the fold.

1 - New Promo by Harlow Heslop

2 - New Promo by Miaa Rebane

3 - New Promo by Strawberry Singh

4 - New Second Life Promo by siXX Yangtz

5 - New Second Life Promo by Ivoni Miles

Harlow Heslop did the first image, Miaa Rabane the pink second, Strawberry Singh the cute third, siXX Yangtz the forth, and Ivoni Miles’ into the music fifth. I think they are all a step up in SL promotional material.

These promotional pieces all have a music theme. I guess we may see the Lab doing themes to see what works promotionally. The previous one was vampires, which many of us think is so yesterday.

I suppose the new and popular TV shows tell us what the big marketing kids think is hot. Apparently SyFy’s Being Human which crossed the pond from the UK, Lost Girl, AMC’s Hell on Wheels, Justified, several are doing some type of reality show, ABC is way into reality shows, CBS is into soaps type drama with Good Wife, Blue Bloods, the popular CSI shows, NBC is going for hook up drama with Jenny McCarthy’s Love in the Wild, Saving Hope (pre-release title) a medical (?) drama with Erica Durance of Smallville, and in cooperation with G4 the American Ninja Warrior. Last season was more into vampires and I expect them to come back in the fall. Otherwise, last season was similar to the coming one so we seem to have the basic mix of popular interests according to the media people of Hollywood.

The idea to follow the big marketing kids seems reasonable. But, TV viewership has been decreasing for some time. (Reference 1Reference 2) So, following them may not be the best idea.

One of the major contributors to TV’s loss of viewers is the Internet where 18 to 34 year olds are said to spend more time. It seems they prefer the Internet where their favorite shows and music are available on demand. Also, people get bored with soaps like Grey’s Anatomy resulting in the soaps losing 15% of their viewers.

The challenge in both the media and online worlds is for managers to figure out what someone else will like. Since the Lindens see Second Life as a work project and few of them are into it as their entertainment or hobby, they will never deeply connect with what’s Hot’s about Second Life. It’s sort of a ‘this is a really cool TV show that I don’t watch…” Right.

Lots of people think they know what others will like about SL. But, that is just people expressing their personal preferences and what they like. None of us know what someone else will like. Can you believe there are people that don’t care for chocolate? I could never have imagined it.

The only way to find out what people like is to experiment and let them choose, which is why the free market works so well. We get what WE WANT not what someone thinks we should have.

  2. It’s good to see them going with the music theme.

I wonder if they’ll follow through on it with guiding people to the events listing for live music, as opposed to routing people to the destination guide for venues which are inactive or empty 90% of the time.

  3. Thanks for drawing people’s attention to the pictures, Nalates. They certainly seem to me a great improvement on what we’ve seen in the past.

And I think it’s such a good idea of LL’s to be showcasing resident-made images of resident-made content!
