Dolphin Viewer

Dolphin Viewer 1.5.43.3627 was released a couple of days ago. Also the support policy was published. See: Dolphin Viewer 1.5.43.3627 and Support policy.

The changes in the viewer are minor. The viewer checks whether it is current and lets you know if you need to download an update.

The RLV sections have been upgraded to version 2.4.0. RLV = Restrained Love Viewer – for those into master/slave relationships and the BDSM thing. Essentially it allows another person to have a great deal of control over your avatar.

I suppose there are bug fixes too. But Lance did not mention any. Most bug fixes are pretty geeky and most of us don’t really care unless it was a bug that affected us personally.

Direction

The poll on the future direction of the Dolphin Viewer now has 96 votes, 67 for SLV2 code and UI, 26 for SLV1 code and UI, and 3 voters that don’t care.

I am surprised that the vote is running close to 3 to 1 for the SLV2 code and UI (User Interface). I suspect most SL residents don’t care about the code. So, I thought most would vote against the SLV2 UI. I suppose that the subset of residents using the Dolphin Viewer may be more technically oriented than the typical SL resident.

The results are surprising considering the general tone of; ‘I hate SLV2’ that seems to pervade the SL ralated forums and blogs. May be that is not the case. I know I am adapting to the SLV2 UI. Since the Mesh Project viewer (an SLV2) is the only viewer capable of uploading mesh, AFAIK, I’ve been using it. Except for use in building, the SLV2 is growing on me.

  1. I don’t think the poll result is that amazing…
keep in mind, every person who is unhappy about something is going to say so, but only one out of twenty will be vocal about being _happy_ with something.

oh, and RLV does not necessarily mean “someone else has control over your avatar”, it’s more like “scripts in attachments that you are wearing have more influence on how your viewer behaves.”

    • Quoting: oh, and RLV does not necessarily mean “someone else has control over your avatar”, it’s more like “scripts in attachments that you are wearing have more influence on how your viewer behaves.”

Technically, you are precisely correct. But, I doubt anyone using a viewer for RLV effect will think of it that way.

      • I do…

For example, the current “MapTP” attachment that you get from those stargates all over the grid uses RLV to actually teleport you to your destination, instead of just opening the map, as soon as you walk through the “event horizon”.
